Man I'm stupid, finally figured it out. All the pics I keep seeing of the 350gt-8 are the 2001/2002 models. Mine is a 2003 and has had a few changes. I found this on the nissan global site:

Skyline Sedan Undergoes Minor Model Change

Among the refinements made to the Skyline Sedan this time, the 2WD models now have higher spring rates, shock absorbers with approximately 30% greater damping force and larger-diameter stabilizer bars for better control of body motions, compared with the previous models, and thereby deliver a tauter driving feel. In addition, braking performance has been enhanced by adopting a braking system incorporating high-performance sport brake pads with an increased friction coefficient and highly rigid brake rotors with an outstanding heat radiation characteristic.

The exterior design projects a sharper impression than before as a result of applying a smoky chrome finish to the grille and headlamp inner panels and changing the sill color from gray to black. At the rear, the car badge and Skyline emblem have been repositioned to give the rear-end a wider look.

On the inside, the audio and heater control switches have been embellished with a chrome accent for a higher quality image, and the 250GT and 250GT FOUR models are provided with rear-seat air-conditioner vents for enhanced occupant comfort.

The grade selection has also been reorganized as part of this minor model change.

<Major specification and equipment refinements>

Exterior

Repositioning of the rear car badge and Skyline emblem

Refinement of the design of the radiator grille, headlamp inner panels and sills

Addition of Sparkling Silver Metallic and Rose Red Pearl as new body colors for a choice of six attractive colors altogether

Interior

Refinement of the control switch design

Adoption of sun visor extensions

Addition of a light to the front-seat vanity mirrors

Adoption of a double-pivot rear-view mirror

Expanded application of rear-seat air-conditioner vents to the 250GT and 250GT FOUR models

Mechanisms

Refinement of the suspension and braking system

ok, i cracked and googled, lol.

3.5L DOHC V6 NA. meh. i dont really like it. very family/maxima. how can they call this a skyline????

VQ35DE (NEO) type V 6 cylinder DOHC with an X toroid CVT 8 speed transmission.

It's more than worthy of the skyline name and is totally different to a maxima.

I parked mine next to a maxima the other day and they look totally different.

id get the coupe - but its similar to the 350z i reckon.....bah just slap on a turbo when modding it - works well either way....

Edit - ok maybe interior is not that much like the 350z - i dunno...gives me the impression that one of them was trying to copy the other....

    • Yes they do. For some maybe. But for those used the most by abusers, ie Skylines, the numbers are known. The stock eyebrow height for R32/3 Skylines is about 365/375mm or thereabouts. The minimum such heights are recorded in adjacent columns in the database.
    • Hmmm, interesting. Makes me wonder whether there is bias as well. It's the cheapest fuel, so it is used for all kinds of ill-maintained shitboxes which are bound to have issues regardless. Nicer cars tend to require higher octane rated fuel and can't use it anyway. FWIW, the official NSW E10 facts page is decent.
    • Out of curiosity, how do officials determine what the OEM ride height and suspension specs are? Do they have a book of truth? I'd think that would be quite obscure knowledge for random JDM cars.
    • This is the check list they sign off on. This implies that adjustable coilovers of the type we're referring to are not a "Variable Ride Height" system. This very much is in the ethos of "I can change the height while moving/while parked without pulling wheels off the car and mechanically doing so"
    • Just an update  ... Put the cat back on no issues with the car running wise ... maybe alittle longer to spoil up the turbo. Still running rich but waiting for my tuner to come back into town to retify the situation. WOT runs fine with the cat.
