Insurance - Suncorp

Recommended Posts

Guest Pearman

Hi Guys,

I know insurance has been a hot topic on this forum.

I'm looking into buying/leasing a 98 R34 GTT.

My quote from Suncorp was Approx $2700 with $1000 excess.

I couldn't beleave it!!

I'm 34, been driving for years, rating 1 for years!

The Questions,

- I've read a number of threads about guys paying $800 - $1000 for suncorp insurance. What's the catch? How/Why so cheap?

- Those with cheap insurnace (if there is such a thing!), when did you take out the policy? Is the high price something new??

BTW, Suncorp only recognised 1 model skyline - GTR, hense the $2700 (even after I explained that there was a big difference in model/value)

Any info,

Thanks

PEARMAN

SunCorp are moving away from insuring Imports. It may be their way of doing it??

I have just today changed my insurance over from SunCorp to Famous.

My renewal from SunCorp this year was $1580, and through Famous I got it for $1200 with unlimited mods (as long as they are legal and you tell them about them).

My advice would be to ring Famous and see what they can do for you. If your a finalcial member of SAU they will give you a reductionas well.

Incentive to be a member of SAU hay :)

i got a few cars with suncorp and it's who u talk to there and if they have a vested interest in your business also. i got a skyline with them fairly lightly modded and it's under 1k and also a 2.7 twinturbo audi value over 150k wait for it $1475. So replacement cost is only part of the equation they look at, just try again after a few days.good luck.

AON Risk Services (brokers).

By far and away the best quote I got from anywhere and no nasty fine print. They are not as small and dodgy as they sound, they specialise in commercial insurance.

BTW 33t, rating 1, average risk suburb in Brisbane = way less than a grand with a couple hundred for the excess.

Thanks for the tips!

By the look of things, I still need to hunt around!

I was surprised that some of the smaller, more 'specialised' places quoted about the same as NRMA. Even one of the insurers that has had a major rap on this forum.

surreal, do you know who is underwriting AON?? This deal sounds very good!

Anyone here leasing their vehicle? Any difference getting insurnace to cover this type of finance?

Try a differant insurance company.

Such as www.youngandcool.com.au

I can't remember the others...

young and cool have quite a few restrictions, such as very little mods you have to have an alarm and immobiliser, if you dont they wont consider you. you have to park your car in a driveway during night time

this company is for the younger drivers (hence the name)

pearman, my ex had a car insured by AON, mainly cos his dad was involved in the company...

but anyway...I don't know who they are underwrited by, but they split up the insurance bill via a number of different companies....and just looking at his last insurance bill I'm looking at right now, it has: CGU Insurance, Royal and Sun Alliance, Suncorp Metway, Allianz Australia...

so I think you are in good hands with AON :P

    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
