Evening / Morning all.

I am thinking about heading to the GC for a working holiday but am unsure on what the good areas are to look at living? Can someone please rattle off some good suburbs so I can check for availability on realestate.com.au

Thanks heaps!

runaway bay, biggera waters, benowa, hope island

What sort of area do you want to live? the goldcoast has a lot of contrasting areas... from the beach scum side (surfers) through to the classier beach side, to the expensive water front properties.

You going to need to be close to the freeway? driving a lot locally? etc... All makes a difference.

I am unsure yet. I am hoping to finish up my debts here and move across into a retail job selling bathers or towels or thongs or something totally stress free for a few months, hopefully being able to surf and having a lot of spare time on my hands.

If you're doing that sort of thing, might be better off down south end..

I've recently just moved down to coolangatta 1 min from the beach.. beautiful beaches down that end. More surf stuff down there, but nothing is too flashy. Overall though it's nice and cruisey.

If you want something more upper class and more central near the beach, probably Broadbeach or Broadbeach waters might be a good choice.

Expect your insurance premiums to skyrocket, I went from $1250 a year for an R32 GT-R living in regional queensland to over $2500 when moving to the gold coast area, particulary Southport... Anywhere around the Southport area and expect to get your car stolen, it's pretty bloody common.

I'm going to list some good and bad suburbs, but even the good suburbs have undesirables sometimes only a stones throw, unless you want to fork out a couple of million for a waterfront block at Isle of Capri or another gated community.

Wealthy and Middle/Upper Class Suburbs - Generally Low Crime:

Sanctuary Cove

Runaway Bay

Hope Island

Chevron Island (Parts of)

Isle of Capri

Ephraim Island

Varsity Lakes

Middle Class Suburbs:

Pacific Pines

Beenleigh

Benowa

Carrara

Coomera

Ormeau

Tugun

Molendinar

Bundall

Blue Collar Area - Mid to High Crime Rate:

Southport

Labrador

Ashmore

Nerang

Chirn Park

Property here is expensive... you also have the option of buying a unit in Main Beach...... but expect to be kept awake from nightclub noise most nights if you are near cavill and your unit is less then 30 levels high.

i live on the beach at tugun, and im much more a fan of the southern end of the gold coast ( as in south of burleigh heads )

northern suburbs are ghetto as ( southport, labrador, nerang, helensvale )

but surfers is awesome if your into the club scene, i have friends living there..

id say get a cheap jetstar ticket or somethin, come down for a weekend and see for yourself =]

oh and beenleigh is dodgy as f**k, lol..

Pretty much sums it up, but as Parag0n said, expect your insurance premuim to go up, mine went from 1700 in noosa to 1935 in mermaid waters

depends if your looking to live with other people or not... i live in arundel which is right near parkwood.. never had a problem with crime.. its a 5-10 min drive from beach.. depending on speed/traffic ^_^ and 3 minute drive to the highway.. but most these places are 300p/w+ for a 3/4 bedroom etc.

i love it coz i can get everywhere that i need to go..

..and the uni is around the corner too which is handy coz getting a carpark there is bad.

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
