Oh... pain in the butt...

The seats are easy to remove. Search for posts on that one. After that, the stock shelf is clipped and bolted in place, but has two slits that your c-pillar plastic covers clip into. If your shelf is OLD and tatty, it'll bend really easily, and you can bend it down and slip the covers past the slits in the shelf.

Otherwise, if you want to keep the shelf, and it's not so bendy... remove the c-pillar covers. Dunno how to do that though.

C- pillar covers are all clips after you unbolt the seatbelts and handles up the top, can be really hard to get off and easy to break the clips

That just makes my method sound WAY better again!

I made my own shelf out of 6mm thick MDF, which I made shorter width-ways. The ends of the shelf sit right up against the c-pillar clips now, with a bit of excess carpet hanging over.

You can't see a single gap, and it looks dead factory!

Hey steve, Im the guy that bough your stock wheels off you. incase you dont know. I ended up making mine out of 16mm MDF, got 6x9s in there with only minor spacing, carpeted it black, looks great, cant see a thing from outside with tinted windows. Thanks for the advice that day.

Hey! Your nickname totally didn't register for a minute there!

Good stuff... good to hear that the shelf went well.

Did you do the shorter shelf that I described above? (and the night you picked up the wheels)

SO worth doing =-]

how will you guys fasten the mdf to the actual parcel shelf? if your making it shorter at both ends?

i was going to make a shorter shelf - but went against the idea as i thought pillar trim is designed to keep the shelf in place preventing it to rattle.

Nah, those pillar trim bits are pretty flexible. I wouldn't count on them.

I had one bolt in the middle, under the cap/cover thing.

I also had two plastic... things? on the left and right, hand side. They are the press-in plastic clip kind of things. I pulled those out, and found that the hole they grabbed into actually had a thread in it. The metal part of the parcel tray has a bolt welded into the underside (visible from inside the boot). I bought two bolts and screwed them in. Now it's strapped down by three bolts, rather than some plastic bits (and c-pillar covers).

I honestly beleive the plastic c-pillars clip into the parcel shelf to hold the pillars in place, not for the pillar covers to hold the parcel tray in place!

    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
    • Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.
    • Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them?
    • I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.
    • Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
