Hey Guys!

I was planning to change my oil every 5K but now Ive started going down to QR

for Saturday Sprints and so should obviously do it more often. The only question is how often...

I thought after every 2nd race,

but a friend suggested I do it after every race.

And another guy (who did sprints for like 2 years) use to do it before AND after every race!!

What are your guys opinions?

(PS track day is normally like 20 laps hot laps on sprint track and Ive got a 92 model r32 gtst with 120 odd K)

Regards,

Zennon

Every 5000k's isn't a very good measure because you may drive more during one period of a year than another. I do mine every February and August and of late thats probably included 1 maybe 2 night time track events and 1 drag day with 3 or 4 runs.

In your case of frequent track events (every week?) I say after every 3rd race/week, but then again some people might like to replace oil once a week/after every race.

No they aren't _that_ frequent - there is like 10 per year...

I'd probably bring it down to around 2500km/3mths, or every 3rd track day. There's absolutely no need to change after every event. That's roughly what I do - if I've just been hillclimbing at MtCotton, I stay on regular 5000km changes, because a short 46 second run doesn't get the oil hot like sprints do. Otherwise I halve the service interval. And use a good fully synthetic oil.

hill climbng at mt cotton! how is that! friend and i were talking about trying that sometime!

ps thanks for the advise guys! :(

I do the race car after every race meet, that is qualifying and 3 races about 2 hours flat out.

When I was just doing track days it was every 2-3 days depending on how hard I had been pushing it.

Cheaper oil is fine when you replace it all the time as long as it is not getting too hot as well. No need to throw away 9l of Motul's finest all the time

I do mine every 2nd event

Oil usually comes out decent

yeah think i might do that too hey

the other thing to remmeber is you cant really tell how good the oil is just by looking at it.

(unless its black ofcoarse - lol)

cant believe im still awake  so much for a good nights rest before the big day! oh well! :P

Yeah good point Duncun... I have been using Motul too! (TurboLight)

*me thinks*

what oil would you recomend as a cheaper oil?

ALTHO I DONT GO TO TRACK DAYS I WOULD RECOMEND. DOING IT EVERY 5000KM AND USEING A HIGH QUILITY OIL. AND PUT ON A OIL COOLER AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE. I USE PENRITE HPR 20. WICH IS A 20W OIL, AND I DO THRASH MY CAR BUT IT GET'S CHANGED EVER 5000KM AND IS FINE.

You can not save on oils changes. So change cheaper not shit oil after every track use or very good oil after 2-2500kms.

We used to race car in rally and high quality oil after 500 kms with about 250 on stages and oil was shit , black like from dieasel engine. And it was 1300 cc engine NA with 128hp on wheels.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
