change your gearbox oil frequently and you will never have the problem.

BTW the redline stuff should be changed just as regularly, so unless your made of money I'd get a couple of different grades of cheap stuff and see what works.

strich9ine,

your not supposed to flat change into 5th its only a 'little gear' :P

Pacey,

Your bearings need replacing. That is the first signs we got when both the R31 and a VL 3ltr boxes were on there way out. Both just needed the bearings replaced. Both were manuals too. Eventually it will become louder.

Yup, my bearings are gone too, not too loud atm, but it'll get worse I'm sure..I will be replacing them when I get my new clutch.

Oh yeah Strich9ine, you will need approx 2 litres of oil for that box..I will be doing mine soon too, I bet it's on the original oil..

    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
    • Sounds like a misfire. Check fuel pressure and don't even think about going into boost while it's like this unless you enjoy engine rebuilds.
