hey dudez.

Just fitted an Aftermarket Steering wheel for my r32 gtst.

The boss kit IS HICAS enabled, but the light seems comes on after about 10-15km of driving.

how do i get rid of this? has it been installed in-correctly?

all the wires have been put in the right place.

im gonna have another crack tmrw, becoz it isnt straight, so ill have another tinkle.

any help would be appreciated.

im guessing the bosskit will have to be dead straight, otherwise it will think your turning, its probably throwing a code after a time period as it knows something is wrong. (can't be constantly going round a corner...)

Dude it sounds like the wrong boss kit. If you try to straighten it and it doesn't work, you'll need to swap the boss.

The usual problem is using the ON-110 when you need the ON-115 or vice versa. It is because the HICAS lugs are in different places on early (pre -92ish) and late R32s.

well there are two types of R32 hicas steering angle sensor. one has the lugs in the 12 oclock and 6 oclock positions when at straight ahead (this is late model, post model change). the other has them in the 2 oclock and 8 oclock positions when the wheel is straight ahead. look at your stock wheel and see which one you have (the lug bits on the wheel are fixed). then pull your boss off and look at it. if they are different, that's your problem. when your friend fitted the wheel he would have rotated the steering angle sensor ring a bit to get it to line up with the boss. now the hicas ecu thinks you are constantly going around a corner and hence the error.

boss being on crooked would also be a problem, it depends how crooked though. A little bit wont cause hicas error, a lot might though. my guess is the wrong boss.

I ended up modifying the boss kit by grinding off the 2 small spots of weld that held the backing ring in place and rotated it to where it needed to be and spot welded it back in place. Problem solved.

so which boss do i need for an early (91) model??

Marcus from memory it should be ON-110 for early models and ON-115 for late models. You just need to make sure the lugs line up. I don't know when the changeover year is - I think the hkbsports website is using Heisei year instead.

    • So, this shouldn't be such a mission, but there were a few tricks so I thought I'd post up a DIY for it. This was on a Q50 Red Sport but I doubt any other V37 model is very different (maybe just less steps for the intake heat exchanger hoses) I pulled the radiator out to flush it because the car was running hot at the track, but obviously the same steps apply for changing a radiator for any reason including an upgrade. If you are removing the radiator, you of course need to drain and refill, so have 5+ litres of blue coolant ready. You don't need to drain the intake heat exchanger to remove the radiator but depending on your plans you may need a couple of litres for that as well. You will also need something to deal with the auto transmission lines, I used 2x 8mm rubber caps on the radiator side, and a short length of 8mm pipe on the car side.....unless you can block these lines quickly you will loose AT fluid and it may be enough to hurt the transmission if you don't refill it. Other than that....lets go... "First, jack up your car". Yes really, and put it safely on stands. If you are not confident doing that you need to give this job to a mechanic

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
