yeah iv got boost gauge thats y i know its always at 6 psi it never goes over it and i checked my plugs they look like there ngk iridium gapped to .8 there so i dont think its them i have no idea what it could be i dont see y it would go into r+r mode with stock boost

its a greddy boost guage and its sits just under .5 bar so 6 or 7 psi y do u think there is something wrong there i thought that was about how many psi they mad standard and y do u think its going into r+r then what do u think would be causing it

hey there,

This explains perfectly what my car does sometimes.

I've changed coil packs and afm to no avail.

Could it be o2 sensor?

I can't seem to find any more info on this - i tried searching but didnt get very far.

any help would be great, thanks

bobby.

If you search with:

+rich +retard

you'll come up with a million threads

I had a very similar problem to yours, it was an air leak, check all your hoses!

i had a tiny crack in one of my rubber hoses (10cm hose and it was not hitting full boost at all even when i floored it, replaced it with a new hose and worked perfectly, boost was just as it had been before! try that...

hey there

lol im not sure about o2 sensors or the wastegate actuator but what i've experienced and stuff i'd jus say...

go ebay ... or ask sau ppl

... n get a used ecu for your car..perhaps 50 bucks?

or ask your mates to lend you one,n if your car works better then it was the ecu, if not forward on to mechanical parts but dun waste ur time on rich n retard its a bitch to deal with it...

Hey all,

In my case this problem was solved by taking apart my ECU, and resoldering all the joints for the connectors to the loom. This isn't a job for the amateur, you are dealing with a very sensitive precision device here...

In my opinion, the manufacturer was fairly stingy on the amount of solder used for these important connectors and they are susceptible to cracking thus causing bad or intermittent connections, or altering the amount of resistance measured in the case of sensors.

Since doing this a few months ago, my car has not repeated this annoying 'rich+retard' mode.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
