I know alot of guys like to use the RB20 wiring loom but personally I prefer to use the RB25 loom and computer. I put a series 2 RB25 motor in my R32 back in June last year and took the RB25 loom and Rb20 loom and made a 'Plug'n'play' loom ie used the R32 plugs that plug into the R32 body loom and wired them into the Rb25 loom. Refer my gallery for photos.

In January this year I did a loom for another member who had a cefiro and dropped a series 1 RB25 into it. Its not too difficult if you are good with a soldering iron and at least have a basic understanding of electrics. I had intentions to prepare a basic wiring procedure for the swap as it is so popular but I just haven't had the time.

I am happy to give guidance if you wish to give it a go.

PS the series 1 and series 2 looms are slightly different.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Ben

I think the faq you mention is for an r32 model rb25de which shares all the same plugs and (i think) injector size. For a 33 model det it definitely IS NOT a plug in as many many people have discovered.

It is possible to run the 32gtst loom with the 33 engine, but there are a few things worth considering.

Are you planning on running the 20 or 25 ecu? To run the 25 ecu it's just a matter of swapping a couple of pins around on the 32gtst ecu plug (i think it's injectors) pm carlh for info as he runs a 25 pfc on a 20. You will also need to swap a few sensor and injector plugs around on the engine side to suit the rb25. You will also need to add in wiring for the vct, secondary idle stepper and a couple of other things.

I went the other way and adapted the 25 loom to the r32. It's a lot of work but i think it gives a better (tidier) result. I think predator has a faq detailing a big chunk of the conversion into a 32gts4. 2 years and a lot of beers have dulled my memory but basically, get the wiring diagrams and pinouts trace and tag everything. Then cut and solder in the plugs that you poach from the 20 loom to suit the 32.

  • 1 year later...

I just got my RB25 today and I was hoping you could help me with some questions.

My Skyline is non turbo so it will be a big step with the RB25.

Now then, My first question is about the gearbox. I'm gonna use the RB25 gearbox but what should be done about the drive shaft??? I also hear the gearbox mounts aren't the same and I will also have problems with the speedo meter.

The second is about the harness, everyone that has ever swapped an engine told me that the harness is the most difficult part of the swap. Do you have the diagram of the R32 and the R33 (still can't find it for the R32) and some pointers on how this is done??

Hope to get a reply from you soon

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
