but onto the subject at hand, the RB23/4, bang for buck, just isnt going to cut it.

if i was in your position, id definitely be going for the RB25/30 combination with a DE head (id imagine the non turbo nomenclature would make them cheaper as a bonus compared to DET heads).

get a '30 block, non turbo should be right, but if you can find a turbo block for the right price, snap it up, bolt the 25DE head on top, strap a turbo and fmic on it, and enjoy life.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

the turbo block is identical pretty much to the non turbo block apart from the pistons, you do not want to use these pistons as you will end up with way too lower compression.

Brenton: Go with the 25/30 combo, do as cubes said and grab a running rb30e, check compression etc to make sure its top notch. then find an r32 rb25de head, whack some GTR valve springs in and you'll be laughing!

Trust me, you won't regret it as the feeling this motor gives you when driving is awesome and definitely worth it in my opinion!

Another option is to grab an R32 RB25DE complete motor for ~1k and drop a nice thick 2mm headgasket on it.

That will drop the compression to around 9:1.

Bolt your rb20 plenum, exhaust manifold, injectors, fuel rail on to it... in other words bolt ALL your rb20det gear on to it and drive away on the stock rb20det ecu. :P

Consider the RB25DE on the rb20det's stock boost making more power than the rb20det would have on 1bar.

Stop all the RB30 talk, I'm so tempted to buy the wife a VL wagon (she loves them) and build a RB30DET for it.

i 2nd that motion chops builds his wife a car we can all have fun in it :P

you so goto do it and bring it to the next dyno day

That's the problem I'm faced with - it would start as a car for the Mrs, and end up something entirely different.

"I'm just going to build you a nice reliable engine honey"... - enter big turbo etc etc etc and an empty bank account.

ALTHOUGH, I could probably build the whole car for what it would cost me to put snails on my car, which is a plus.

Ok, what do RB25DE heads run at these days?

Seems like im the not only person after having something different in there car.

Yeh Nisswreck are a bit pricey. Went there for a full engine and drive train package for $2500.

RB25det full engine package was like $5000.

Skippy - Cheers for that. I will get in contact with this guy. If this is still for sale. The fully rebuilt RB20DET, i can just inspect all my anccilaries and bolt them straight up. Or get a 33 turbo and actually have enough to get my manual conversion too.

The RB30det sounds tempting. I will need to look into this a bit more.

I installed my bucket seat properly yesterday and stupid me forgot about the whole car hasn't been started for a month. Drained battery and no other car to jump start.

Pushed the brick on wheels down my 25mtr driveway to use next door neighbours car to jump start it.

Never am i going to do that again. due to lack of sleep and starting work at 3:30am i fried the ecu. red to red and black to red and red to black. Fuses and ecu dont like this combination.

HAHAHAHHA expecnsive way to kill an allready dead car.

RB25det and full drivetrain might also be an option. or 25de and change some internals to make her a nice turbo'd engine.

Keep your ideas coming guys.

Once the new year comes around the cars going to be getting a new engine. Just what is up to me.

having the money sitting around doing nothing while i try and source the engine parts is annoying.

Hy guys

I'm in the same position as r32 4door drifting. Im considering the 2.4 route IF i can get the GTR crank and rods at a good price. I have a workshop at my disposal so the only labour ill be paying for is the balancing etc of internals.

IMO, RB30 would end up more expensive as you'd need new plenum, exhaust manifold to bolt up to the 25 head, cost of 25 head etc.

So, if i already have the RB20, can get crank and rods for ~$500. Then do some head work to make it flow better why wouldnt this be a better option? Would have to change any wiring or anything either as you;d be bolting the same engine back in?

Any input appreciated.

Cheers

RB30 in my opinion is only really worth it if you want to start pushing over 250rwkw.

If your happy with changing up at ~6500rpm then there's no need for a new plenum on the 3ltrs. If you want it to rev hard 8k odd then they need a plenum.

The rb20 and rb25 exhaust manifolds are the same. Same bolt up, they are identical.

So not as expensive as you have led yourself to believe.

A cheap rb30 refresh is worth ~1800. Drop on the r32 rb25 head for max $900 odd. Thats a fresh motor for under 3k.

Bolt on all the old rb20 bits, use the r32 rb25de inlet manifold, bolt on the rb20 plenum and off you go.

go the rb25de brenton - bolt all your shit on, and do your manual conversion. should still have cash to spare.

needs to be the 32 rb25de though, as 33 one has vvt of something i think and the rb20 wont suit.

go talk to terry at kansai - he is building up the rb25de right now for the cefiro! with H/G, big turbo, inj, comp etc...

OR if you really must - he's also got GTR crank and rods down there if you are to go the 23/24 route.

I have the 24 in my ceff - just had it all tuned (results in RB20 power thingo) BUT - i was lucky, all i had to do was buy the block and freshen it up, not get all the machining etc done otherwise it would've been too $$$ for me.

    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
