When I first moved into the place im at now, our garages were getting broken into on a regular basis. The only thing i was worried bout was them scratching my kid parked down there, so now, $90 later, if the door is even remotely jarred open it trips a silent alarm, waking or alerting me upstairs so I can stroll down and dish out some real street justice.

Happened once, found a guy snooping downstairs, flashed my wallet badge and asked him for ID, stoopid prick gave me everything I needed to know about him too! Dont know whether it was the badge or an accompnaying piece of equipment, but we have had no problems ever since!!!!!!!

A friend of mine who also lives in the same block of units as me in the east of sydney had his s15 Silvia (import 200sx) stolen during last week from our "secure parking". Our car spaces are next to each other about 50m from the main gate to the apartment parking, so its a fair bit awa from the street. Anyway my friend had lost his licence about 2 weeks earlier so the car had had its starter motor taken out for repairs as long as a few other things. The car was totally undrivable. So after having a little go at my skyline they decided to take the s15. Long story cut short. They must have broken in and pushed the car to the entrance of the units with tow truck waiting. Turns out its the 4th car stolen from the car park. Cops still havent even come out to look/interview people. The car was found 3 days later stripped. No insurance either (stupid).

Car theives are the scum of the earth. Police dont seem to take it to seriously either.

  • 1 month later...
  • 2 weeks later...

like I have said before, this isn't evident of all NSW police and I hate making generalisations but...

what is easier, cruise the streets and defect hassle young guys with done up cars (some deserve it), make the government some money from defects

or

setup operations to stop car thieves or bother to try and stop them?

I guess thats kind of a coincidence. Same guys at it for who knows how long and probably will continue until caught. What suprised me was that there were 3 ppl watching them and they didnt give a damn. Just kept on going until 1 of the witnesses yelled out. And I was parked under a street lamp across where all the bus stops are with ppl walking past continously. Never been to strathfield since ....... kind of sad really ... oh well at least we know it was a white old civic 1980's with some zorst ... you guys can watch out for that car ... btw guys inside were asian

If I was a cop, I'd be a lot more excited and proud about being tactical and strategically catching actual criminals - especially these obvious repeat offenders who would be making absolute fools out of the local police in each of those areas.

Otherwise I would have to consider myself nothing but a lowly traffic cop issuing infringements to nobodies.

Whats better ??

Scenario 1:

"Honey I'm home - yeap fined 3 more hoons for having pod filters tonight......nah nah pod filter.....P-O-D F-I-L-T-E-R ??.....Oh its a different type of air cleaner that......Honey - where are you goin ? You're goin to watch Big Brother ? Oh ok I'll wait till commercial to explain what that is and why its a big deal to me that I have to remain excited to come home and tell you about......Oh look...they evicted Vincent......Didn't you like him babe ??.....Honey ??? ...Hello ??"

OR

"Honey I'm home - yeap me and the boyz finally cracked that skyline thieving ring......yeah the ones with the cool round tail lights.......we got em babe.......what ?? you wanna have an early night AGAIN ?? oh ok honey......you're right...I did earn it....but take it easy with me - I've gotta get up at 6am and do it all over again.....yeap a good cop knows he can't rest while there's more out there..."

PuppaDuck, that story is funny because it's true! Well the first story is true, the second story as Majanal says, only happens in the movies. And even then in the movies doesn't the car thief get let off? (Gone in 60 seconds).

    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
