Hi,

i currently have a stock R32GTR Vspec with stock everything. I've boosted the turbos by removing the restrictor and think its time for some more power.

I want the car to be a street car as i'm going to use it everyday.

At the moment, i'm thinking

exhaust (heard that the stock cat back is not bad, should i keep this?)

cat

front pipe

dump pipe

Power FC

Clutch

Mild tune

What parts and where do you guys recommend? and also is there anything i'm missing from this list?

I want to make sure the car doesn't suffer from drivability or the stock look.

Any help would be great

can we have some serious replays

that was a serious reply. u didnt say u didnt want to touch the internals, and it being a 32 and old and u want to make more power from it, it's going to spin a bearing in the future, its a given.

but if u dont want to touch the internals id suggest the following:

exhaust - 3" cat back, hi-flow cat, trust extension front pipes

boost controller - blitz ID3 (run 15psi)

power FC

fuel pump - dpends how much power u want, bosch 040 or 044

injectors - depends how much power u want, sard 600's or the like

suspension - sk's group buy

brakes - new rotors & pads (DBA 4000 with ferodo ds2500 fronts and racebrakes rbf74 rear)

oil cooler - one of those $340 from performancewise on here

clutch - Jim Berry full monty

Turbo's - depends on what condition the stocko's are like on ur car, i've got a set of R34 turbo's for sale, they're in great nic and u can pump an easy 16psi through them ;)

theres an easy 10k once its all installed, but u'll have a nice all round gtr :)

Don't have 10k unfortunaly :)

Anyway,

if i were to go the

3" cat back \

cat

trust extension front pipes

power fc

jim berry clutch

whoud i be needing any others on the list like fuel pump and injectors?

don't want crazy power

Any roughly how much are each parts + how long to fit and tune.

Prices take from www.nengun.com -

cat back exhaust - $790

cat - catco cat ~$400

trust extension front pipes - $1000

power fc - $960 from the group buy (add another $500 for tuning)

jim's clutch - $1300

springs & shocks from SK - $1400 (i think)

as u can see it adds up quite quickly :)

P.S thats just the parts, if u cant fit them urself u'd be forking out alot more in labour. I do all the labour myself, except for tuning (of course)

Throw the power fc in the bin, speak to Dr.Drift he can tune the standard computer and achieve the same results

Yep, power fc is a waste of money on an R32 - talk to Dr Drift.

Doing the same to mine in the new year.

Whats Dr. Drift Charge for an initial tune?

Whats he then charge for subsequent tunes?

I did the sums a while back and after a couple of tunes the PFC came out ahead. BUT this was only so as to touch up a pfc the tune its ~1hrs work so ~$100 for subsequent tunes.

The initial tune is ~300.

The PFC does have the VERY useful knock warning dash light flash.. This is very valuable, I've dropped a tank of Mobil 98 stuff in where I swear the bloke must have stuffed up and dropped ULP in.. First boot it knocked like buggery, dash light flashed and I jumped off it. Dialed 6degree's and no more knock.

Another tank went in dialed back in that 6degree's and all was good again. :)

Oh but the Stock ecu detects knock and drops back to the low octane map you say... yes true but only if rev's are under 4000-4500rpm over that and you have NO protection. :)

Back to back with the stock ecu and the PFC; the pfc felt smoother. Can't quite put my finger on it but it definitely felt smoother.

The PFC also got rid of my occasional idle hunt issue the stock ecu had.

personally id go the power fc. a lot more can be done with them then the stock.

for a daily driven look at doin some maintainence work. are you over the 100,000k mark yet? oil pump water pump. look at cooling lines. boring stuff i know but power is useless if the car doesnt run.

for power mods i reckon the intake and exhaust.

a good panel filter or pods with a CAI box.

dumps front pipes catback and even a cat.

power fc

suspension

agreed

why be locked into only tuners who do remapping?

with the powerfc you can choose your tuner

get configurable engine flash light control (inj, afm, knock)

and the user has full control + view in real time of whats going on

i see no reasons/advantages to go for a remap

yeah thats the stuff...change turbs but that depends on your HP target maybe go some garrett 2860R-5/2530's

Add some adjustable cam gears for tuning it in...cheap way of making the most of what your getting. Definately get the EBC and add some pods, I'd change the fuel pump for security and a bit of headroom. Throw in some bigger injectors and your away. Check the RB dyno thread. I have the SK GB suspension dealy a couple of extras and it is worth the investment

i'm pretty set on getting a pfc, don't think remapping the stock ecu is the best option. Its just not flexible.

its just over the 100,000K mark, i've done the service and replaced the water pump. The car is in excellent condition.

Not chasing huge power, 230-250 rwkw would be heaps

is it really worth $1000 for the dumps and front pipe? If it doesn't give heaps more power but adds excellent response, i'll look into it.

i got the trust dumps front pipe. u shoulda seen the look on my face when i saw the size of them! well worth the money. u can pick them up from autobarn for around the same price as nengun and if ur lucky they will be in stock in the warehouse. that way u get them way quicker then from japan.

(sorry bout the pic size)

If you don't have 10k and don't want to rebuild, I'd be changing the turbo's now before they let go and destroy things. I'd also be thinking about upgrading the radiator and having the cooling system flushed.

You have a very old car there which would have seen a little more spirited driving than other cars the same age.

- Rebuilt or upgraded turbos

- cooling

- replace all really old bits that look like they need replacing. hoses, cv boost, etc.

that should give you some clever things to spend you money on for a while.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
