Hi Guys..

I'm looking at replacing the stock 6X9s in my R33 and am lookng for some advice regarding what to go for.

Not after anything flash (not big into steros) but basically something that will make the most out of the head deck (Pioneer 4X50watt).

advice regarding whether to go 2 / 3/ 4 way and how many watts (keeping in mind no plans for amps).

ie. using this head unit am i really going to benefit buying Pioneer 420w 3 way over 260w 3 way???

thanks!

if you want a top pair of 6x9's, get your hands on the phillips pro series speakers, they arent on the market any longer but they are great speakers to have if some1 will sell them to ya. i have them in mine, and they are clear as, before the amp got installed and even better after the amp.

I went for a new set of 6x9's and chose alpine type S. Can't remember the model number, but they were about $120 form JB's. Couldn't be happier. No need for a sub, as they have plenty of bass (no doubt a sub would have more, but I want to keep the boot space, and also I hate it when you see a skyline drive by and hear it thumping like a kidnap victim is trying to escape from the boot.)

I chose these speakers because I already had an alpine deck, and some alpine 5.25's in my doors.

Anyway, that's my .02

god dammit...

they come stock with 6inch front and back... fitting 6x9s in the back is a bitch without the right gear, which you can get, but i dont know what to look for...

if you have a sub, or plan on getting one, please dont waste your time with 6x9s, they will never be as good as even a mediocre 6 inch...

if you dont have a sub, and dont want one, then i dont know, go to a store and listen to them... i suggest getting a small amp as well...

also, those power ratings are max power, they mean sweet f**k all... look for RMS power... if your headunit has 50 watts x 4, then get something with 50 wattsRMS...

Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
