i reckon with these insurers, if u give them competition to deal with, they'll match the offer at least. Like im currently with just cars for my r33 gtst and i only have 3rd party which costs 600 dollars. I rang ryno and they offered 1600 for full comp. I rang justcars and they said that they could do full comp for me for 1700 but only for an agreed value of $8000, cos thats what i told them i bought it for :P So i told them that i wanted to cancel my 3rd party because if i was going to get comprehsnive cover, i wanted to cover it for at least market value. So they got back to me and said they could do full comp for an agreed value of $15000 at the same premium of $1700. Even though ryno is still cheaper id rather stay with just cars purely based on reputation.

..so what's your point from this?

Shannons act as an agent for Australian Alliance Insurance (but are wholly owned by them), it is often the way the insurance world works. No trouble at all, nothing wrong with legal agreements!

ETA: Prior to being bought out Shannons acted in the same way the 'smaller' ones do. It is common and nothing to worry about.

GT-R32 - well,

its very similar mate!

windscreen, usage policies, ncb etc etc - very similar to shannons!

Oh yes, shop around, but Im happy where I am

Yep, very similar I agree. Certainly a case of much of a muchness. Definitely simply a case of shop around, but don't be nervous if you haven't heard of them from TV or 'everyone' being insured through them is my point. :D

Seems stupidly cheep! I am actually a bit worried! I mean Shannons was $1750 and I thought that was cheap!

Would love to know if anyone has claimed with them.

I called them for a quote, left my phone number and was told i would get a call back later that afternoon..

It has been days since then and still no call. Had that experience with Famous Classic a couple of times too, and i have a policy with them. Guess you cant expect too much from smaller companies!

  • 5 weeks later...

Ok, just received my Just car renawal notice:

They want:

$902 - agreed value $23800 - excess $400

Got a quote from Ryno few weeks ago:

$976 - agreed value $37000 - excess $500

I'm about to go pay a visit to Ryno coz they're at Coopers Plains, just 15 mins from where I live to see if they can tweak their premium a bit. Ryno allows you to pay by the month at no extra cost has won me. Everything else seems similar to Just cars including mods etc...

Which would you choose if you were me?

I had an awesome quote back from ryno but I'm just not 100% convinced yet. You know about the old saying...... "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is !!"

I've been screwed over by quite a few companies lately and am very hesitant to jump into anything now days. The problem is, if a company does take your money and then defaults on their agreement, most people don't have the $'s to fight the company in court. I'm not saying that Ryno fits in this category but I'd like to see if they're around in another year's time and if they have lots of happy clients.

I rang them for a quote... to be honest, I am a bit nervous as they are pretty small... not very well known and what's more are based in only 1 state - QLD...so yeah... did some research....and found that these guys are actually only the broker that deals with Caliden Underwriting NOT and insurance company in their own right... in other words, these guys refer business to Caliden and acts on behalf of the client...

All insurance companies have brokers. JustCars is a broker... it gives you no real significant advantage to have them owned by the actual insurance company apart from the name. Legally they're seperate entities anyway so if Just Cars goes bust it's the same as Ryno going bust - their underwriting insurance company ain't necessarily comin to the rescue.

Very true. I have now swapped ALL of my car policies (3 at the moment) to Ryno. They are very very cheap!

Did you get a further discount with Ryno for having more then one car with them?

Do they insure NORMAL cars like civics (non modified)?

I think they do normal cars as long as you have something else with them? Or even demonstrate you are a car person even? Dunno, give them a call I would say.

Same, must be busy!

i applied for an online quote and got declined... received this in my email.... "Unfortunately on this occasion we are unable to offer you a quotation as the details you have submitted do not meet our mimimum underwiting guidelines." is there a minimum requirement thing?

    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
