Even though i've had my car for a couple months, today was the first time i filled right up. But once i did, and the lever clicked to tell me i was full, i notice petrol dripping from underneath the tank...i was like wtf. No fuel came overflowing from the filler cap. Do the tanks have an overflow thing or something?? : So i then turned the car on and after a about 5 minutes the dripping eased up. What could be wrong with the tank? split? The car is R32 GTS-t.

Any help appreciated,

Scott

It could also, and most probably be, a f@rked seal on the tank. It is not normal for the petrol to drip out for 5 min. on the floor, not to mention dangerous. Hate to make you feel bad but better be safe than sorry.

When i got my company van (already 3yrs old, from new) i noticed that after filling the tank, to full, petrol would drip out the bottom. I decided to have a look one day and got on the floor, while at the station. The petrol wasn't coming out of a 'over flow pipe' and the leak appeared to start up high (out of sight). Told my boss to book it in for a check. The MERC. dealership was surprised to find the seal stuffed, especially on a 3yr old van.

Sorry about the story but just speaking from experience.

PS: if your seals are stuffed (due to the car's age) vapours can be escaping out of the tank, thus you are loosing petrol. NOT TO MENTION THAT VAPOURS ARE THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF A PETROL EXPLOSSION. For your safety i would get it checked out properly, by asking your mechanic to remove the tank and inspect it.

actually the first time i filled my car up, it kept clicking like every litre, so what happend as i was filling it up and i let it click one to many times and the petrol splashed up my hand and down my leg.

i have found that if you don't put the nozzle right it it doesn't click as often :(

not related but hey :)

try another servo....I've had the same thing happen at certain servo's, takes bloody ages to fill up the car  but at other servo's it's fine. So I just avoid the ones that keep clicking off now :)

I fill up at the same station, same bowser every week. I fill it until it clicks and then just slowly fill it until i reach even dolars (usually another 0.5-1.0 Litres).

In the end its around 60ish Litres.

Find a good pump and stick to it is my theory.

I've found out that there is a problem with my tank, cuz i got someone to tail me on the road and whenever i turned sharply, fuel would piss out from somewhere. The only thing i've got done to the car around the tank area was installed a high flow pump. Could it just be the seal around near the filler cap?

Regards,

Scott.

Now it looks like i've spoted the problem...and an easy one to fix. I took off the plastic inner guard on the rear left wheel and discover that the breather pipe had come off the connection to the inside of the filler cap. It's got me ****ed on how it came off...

Scott.

    • You Gregged a whole racetrack!?
    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
