A friend of mine has an R33 GTSt 97 model, I drove it the other day and it seems to bogs down once it reaches 2000rpm then the rpm increases very slowly. as if something is holding it back.

he changed fuel filter. and the turbo seems to be boosting fine.

I was thinking the throttle body maybe dirty, what do you guys think?? any ideas

vendetta...that signature would have to be one of the most rediculous things i have read on a car site. makes you look like like an idiot before people even get a chance to judge you...

on the topic of the thread, it could be the AFM or even the air filter if it is dirty and not enough air getting through. Also maybe injectors dirty - run some injector cleaner through before pulling things apart in case its something small. try fiddling with the throttle polition sensor (there's a thread on it) as well as this could be the problem.

Waz.

  • 3 months later...

we took everything apart and the rubber hose coming from the turbo to the pod filter was loose we tightened it but still. when driving it i feel like there is too much air going in or something.

it goes a bit better but still it still feels abit ristricted in power. we changed the spark plugs, cleaned the afm, changed the ecu .

next step is changing the coil packs. any other suggestions.

i still think its a boost leak

check the zaust manifold... sometimes they can crack

but i dont think ive ever heard of a standard one cracking

could also be loose from the block or a gasket is blown somewhere.... check both sides of the equation.... but if its when its on boost id say 90% chance its a boost leak or something similar ahmed

took everything on the right hand side of the engine apart and put it back together, I noticed there is a minimal amount of oil in front of the turbo but there is no shaft play or anything. and defenitly there is no air leak cause i checked everything

the car has improved but still i feel like the engine is restricted its not as free as it should be. tomorrow we'll have a look at the fuel side of things (fuel rail, injectors)

anyone have any other ideas??

I read something about the o2 sensor sometimes becoming faulty where is that located and can that be the problem ?

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
