i was having a chat to a few different mechanics in melbourne and they were thinking that motec would be the a good way to go on the stagea

so keep the factory ecu and have the motec controlling injectors, air flow etc etc.

they are a really good ecu

just seeing what u guys think about

cheers

i seriously thought about installing a motec ems in my stag but then i was convinced an A'pexi PFC would be a cheaper and just as capable setup, of course it would need the patent pending "secret squirrel mod"

but i am stoked with the difference mine has at a fraction of the cost of a motec.

this in turn leaves more coinage to apply further mods elsewhere.

only thing may be if yours is auto the pfc is no good to ya i don think.

Yeah first 2 replies by guys with manual "S" versions (I am sure Andy will be along soon to rub it in as well, haha!). I have no idea how well the Motec would work but it has a good name and reputation. All depends on the economics I guess, what are the workshops quoting to make this a success?

Cheers

Luke

:) :) :)

see they way i was thinking is this the power fc will be hard to wire up due to it has quite a big plug if u know what i mean, there for, u have to find a plug that fits it and then wire on what u need

where as the motec does not, it allready normally comes with a plug and loom and u just have to cut the wires from the stock ecu and just put them together with the ireing loom of the motec, i know they can be expensive but if u are on the look out for one second u can get one cheapish

and they are a very very good ecu.

I just have to be another one..

:thumbsup::rant::O;):):):):)

Yeah we know you have a manual Ian, but the others 3 all have Power FC's!

Motec

As long as you use it as a piggyback with the factory ecu it should work well

That way your auto will work well still on gear changes

I used a M4 motec in my Aw11 MR2 with a black top 20 valve 4age as a stand alone ecu

I was not happy with the final result. The engine ran great, but I had other problems with A/C control and engine stalling etc. Final cost fitted was over $4K fitted & tuned. Thes costs just ran away sorting out problems.

i was thinking of gettin the m4 motec thats the cheapest one still really good cause im not really aming or 10sec quater miles so that one will be good enough

there is one on ebay 1400 thats not bad.

or i was thinking about the Autronic SMC these seem to be good as well

yes i will be useing it as a piggy back system

the hard thing is gettin so one who knows what they are doing to tune it.

and not rip me off for shit work.

my car has a to4 turbo and front mount witha 3 inch dum pipe and screamer pipe

next is injectors and rest of the exhasut and boost controller

hopefully running 14 pound boost should go hard

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
