yeah, but isn't the whole idea they are testing the emissions.. not just which doovas they have which might change the emissions?? In other words, they don't really care what your car has takked onto it, as long as the emission reading (and noise) is legal. Isn't that the whole idea of the test?

using logic yes, but its the epa so..

basically they dont want u to change the factory setting even tho it might actually run cleaner with an aftermarket ecu and intake mods!

alright, when you say that its best for the engine bay to look as stock as possible, does that mean that if there is a big a/f turbo sitting there that you gonna be fncked or what?

also with fmic, do they look for them or if it was black and covered with mesh they wouldnt even know?

what if you put the top of the standard air box over a pod?

My thoughts on EPA...

I had to take my 32 there last year for heaps of reasons..... They're not stupid and will spot all of the following:

ANY sort of boost controller - trust me I spent ages hiding mine and he spoted it in 2 minutes

Any sort of oiled filters are ILLEGAL

Only allowed 1 inlet modification, filter or cooler or inlet plenum etc etc... but not more than one

Removable silencers are passable if the securing bolt is welded in

ANY sort of air/fuel or timing controllers are illegal, and they frequently remove the kick panel to check ECU and wiring associated with it.

When I went over and passed, I had FMIC, non-oiled pod Filter, 300ZX AFM, custom chip in my ecu, welded in silencer (89.8 db with silencer!!!), and a high flowed VG30 turbo.... the only thing they picked was two inlet mods but let it passed anyway. My chip passed emmisions test with flying colours... they even commented that it was way below the maximum allowed and heaps less than most other skylines....

NO!

engineers approval and EPA approval are two separate things.

Engineers is for brake/suspension/diff etc etc.

mods that don't affect Emissions.

EPA test (worth $2,500+) is the emissions test to get it approved (if you want) with the alterations like zorst/safc/boost/big turbs etc etc.

If you fail you don't get a refund or a second chance.

Same test that all new car models must go through.

I'm gonna look at doing it to mine once i'm finished in a few years. That way the cops can't defect you for anything as it get's the EPA approval with all mods listed (same as engineers)

I've said this all before so i'm not going to go into more detail.

that's why they pin you for not being stock - safc's and boost controllers and stuff.

ha!

wish it was that simple as them doing it while you are there!

but i think to get the cert. there are more test's to go through.

First of all,

Guys stop kiding yourself, these guys that work there arnt fools!

Covering a FMIC with some mesh isnt going to cover it, when i got done and went down to mcloed(spelling) i disconnected my Turbosmart boost controller (incabin) and wraped the hoses around the wiper leads. The barsted opend my bonnet and that was the first thing he looked at, then he said "$500 fine if that was connected". THen he opend my airbox, checked my intake for BOVs, followed all intake tubing/hoses . Then he checked exhaust/cat and done the DB test, checked CO/2 levels. then said nothing here, see ya later son! (10-12MINS)

Change you exhaust to a stocky, check your cat, replace your stock air element, and change your oil if your really para. Then after the EPA take your exhuast OFF, air cleaner out, Hell stick a mega huge triple trumpet BOV and roar past there with you plates fliped up! :shake:

*** you EPA & junior cun*tibles pricks i hope your reading this, you may be able to inconvineince us, but youl never be able to stop us.

    • We have a huge update coming in the next few months, version 5 of Invision will be released. I'm holding off any changes until after this change as I'm not sure what features will be removed or introduced.
    • Yeah, plenty of air flow, there is a dedicated path that feeds the air in to the OEM intake tube behind the bumper As for a "tangible effect", maybe, but getting the pod/intake air out of the hot engine bay is worth it psychologically to me, even if it gives no performance difference, so the tangible effect in my Lizard brain saysss yessss  In the end, to me a tangible effect isn't always about performance, sometimes it a sound or a look, or even a...... feeling  Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
