ok

a mate bought a brand new hand controller from kudos - for his sr20det - hand controller came - plugged it in and it froze on the apexi logo.

wrong controller :/ - so sent it back and got another one from somewhere else.

finally came today (second hand unit) - plugged it in and now there is nothing - no freezing, no light up, no picture or writing. nothing. it was supposedly to suit a sr20det.

if any hand controller is plugged in i was under the impression that even if it is incorrect, it will still start up and then freeze on the apexi logo?????

hand controller number is FCCNT 9805 - 0023

BUT!!!!! - i plugged it into my ap engineering rb20det power fc - and it lights up and i can view everything and it works perfectly!!!

My mates SR power FC serial no. is PFC SR202R 9812-033 . this was also bought second hand. And my ap engineering power fc is brand new from box about 2months.

So i was under the impression that brand new units and older units were not compatible with the older handcontrollers???

so wtf??? anyone got any ideas on this situation - as to why the hand controller isnt even lighting up and freezing with this one

thanks

-Matt

According to Paul's FAQ, Apexi product chart says that for an SR20, compatible FC Commanders have a serial FCC NT (1st gen) or FCC FN or FCC3 (later releases).

So it looks like your mate has the PFC that requires a FCC FN or FCC3 serial FC Commander.

let me know once you sort it out, will update the faq if something is wrong

if its not even powering up some else is bogus. if the hand controller is wrong it fails post diag and locks at the apexi logo. open the hand controller and see if its burnt or smells burnt. i suspect its dead or something else is busted.

well thats all it is worth to me, i will pull it apart and salvage the screen and anything else, assuming they arent toast. try and return it back to the supplier as DOA and get your money back, if not throw it in the bin

sorry guys the HC is fine its the pfc thats stuffed i.e water damaged

it doesnt seem to want to power up the HC although the PFC still seems to run the car fine for now

and the HC runs fibe on Huddys FC

bit odd, maybe the pfc socket for the hand controller is toast?

where is the "water damage" idea coming from?

when u open up the PFC do you see any burnt or damaged stuff? does it smell? check the pins running to the PS2 socket for the hand controller

hey ryan post a pic up !

the water damaged seemed to off come in through the plugs for the handcontroller (from memory)

it is just odd that with another hand controller that 1400r had before it DID load up and freeze on the logo, now with this one - it does nothing (BUT works perfect on my rb20 AP PFC)

    • But seriously, can we ask for the results of the "tip a bottle of metho into a nearly empty tank" experiment?
    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
    • Thanks @Duncan Ride height is fine. I think it's almost stock tbh. Happy to share a pic. I don't actually have a regular mechanic as haven't lived in Sydney too long. Could you or anyone recommend any shops in Sydney?
