rob77
I dont know if this car is gone yet or if anyone has put dibs on it, but its pretty depressing. In 2004 my car will be 10 years old, this one will be 15 years old, but from the photo's it looks reasonably straight. Even if you paid $17k for it still has to be the BEST bargain I've seen in a long time. Now I'm all depressed about my car http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...asp?StockID=730 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15212-bargain-r32-gtr/ Share on other sites
MrSnrub
Very nice! Here is another cheapy..... usually i dont like veilside front bars, but this car looks hot. http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...asp?StockID=733 Although Im not 100% on the costs involved in importing one of these cars...... they seem very cheap....and im very keen :-) Ben Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15212-bargain-r32-gtr/#findComment-310277 Share on other sites
C-Red
I wouldnt bank on you still being able to import 15 yo cars next year Rob. I've got it on good authority that the feds will change it to 20 year old cars at the end of this year. C-Red
True, the level of 15yo imports has gone up 600% over the last 12 months - you can imagine how much they would have gone up in '89 with all the good stuff. GTS-t VSPEC
Can't they make up there minds. I know people that have bought lots of 15yo cars already and there in storage waiting for the correct date to bring them across. C-Red
'89 stuff dude? They better hope that they dont change the rules, otherwise they'll be stuck with a front and rear half cut. GTS-t VSPEC
Yes '89 stuff, it would suck for them. Seems rediculous they can keep changing the rules. How are businesses supposed to cope? RB20LagWagon
Cause the scheme isnt ment for businesses to make money from, the govt hates any second hand car imports, it makes us like a third world country, Most companies usually make bulk coin from these 15 year old imports anyway. However the govt shouldnt keep changing the rules because they dont like the way people are maniplating them hmm i like contridicting myself Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15212-bargain-r32-gtr/#findComment-310735 Share on other sites
C-Red
Its amazing the way everyone has got something against making profit on imports - even Risbey makes a profit, he told me himself. jmp
risbey makes his fold on the service fee right, not on the price of the car ??!? That was my understanding, his buyers have a fee in the car itself though, I think ... rob77
The way importing works, rough guide. (this is how it happened for me). Buy compliance plate, pay "service fee" (i didnt use prestige but someone else whose fee was $500), find vehicle, vehicle price is FOB (free on board, in other words I paid a buying fee, which is to cover all paperwork, de-rego, travel to and from dock and loading onto ship, plus commission to the sales person. This can vary from 50,000yen to 100,000yen so I'm told), vehicle turns up at freo dock, goes through customs + quarantine (use a customs agent costs a bit more but easier for you), pay custom's fee's, inspection fee's, import duty, gst, shipping fee's. Car then goes to compliancing etc etc etc. I doubt geoff would make any money on the sale, I would say his income is basically the service fee. There is a lot involved with importing, yes you save money, but you dont see the car till it gets here, except for photo's, and you dont get to drive it so its a lottery. Havent seen too many bad examples though. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15212-bargain-r32-gtr/#findComment-311918 Share on other sites

rob77
It is quite a long process mrsnrub and can cause a few nervous moments, but when the vehicle rocks up and its straight as and drives well it as worth the while. I know a few people that have imported themselves through prestige and they've been pretty happy and then I know people who have bought through yards and are happy as well. Damn, there's another 89 gun grey GTR on prestige's website, its fairly stock so you could bring it in now for an extra $3k or wait and save $3k if the laws stay the same... either way its a friggen bargain at $21k if you bring it in now. EnricoPalazzo
I went thru Geoff and my car was straight and excellent I was very worried to say the least wen i got to the docks, but then i was like. DAIM thats mine : ))) Geoff gets money from his service fee, but im pretty sure he would get kick backs from compliance referals etc etc. Geoff has over 500 cars as sold on his website. THis equates to $550,000. But the best thing is that all those cars on his website are all Stock sold cars and does not refer to Auction sold cars. In other words we have all made Geoff very rich : ) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15212-bargain-r32-gtr/#findComment-312608 Share on other sites
rob77
You've got to take tax out of that, plus expenses etc etc etc. I'd say he's done well, but he certainly isnt 1/2 a million dollar's richer Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15212-bargain-r32-gtr/#findComment-312623 Share on other sites
