hey all just had the worst w/e...on friday nite i was coming back from chadstone just watched a movie with my misses n dropping her home, wen i was directed into the service lane. one police officer (on a full on power trip) got me outta the car, he checked my engine bay - found nothing wrong there, so he kept looking around the car, he saw my underbody neons (onli put on coz i got em for nuttin) n defected me for that, coz they apparently needa plastic protective cover - they do already. then he defected me for my head lights - he sed that all four lights need to come on instead of just 2 - i didnt make the headlights so i figure thats how they r. he then defected me for wires hanging under my dash which i tucked away wen he told me. he also wrote down on the defect that my handbrake needs to be adjusted - its just a stock handbrake. n he also gave me a fine for 118 bucks n 3 points for my licence plate not being fitted to the front of my car - i just had my kit put on on friday it self n they didnt want to drill into the front bar, coz theyll need to take it n redrill it again wen it gets painted, n that may crack the front bar. that was friday around midnite, its dated 20/01 on that one. on saturday during the day i was coming back from the pools just on my way home wen i got pulled over again - they booked me for the licence plate again - on the fine its dated the 20/01. is that possible to book me for the same thing on the same day?? they searched my car n slammed my doors freakin soo hard too.

on also on friday he sed its all in the rule book (while pointing to his car) so i asked if i can see the rule book where it says that n he sed he doesnt have it with him so i sed so y u putting to ur car wen u sed that n sed its in his booth so i asked again n he sed he doesnt have to show me shit. he also asked me to open my petrol tank so i did n asked what he's looking for in there n sed he doesnt have to tell me :S

has anyone had this sorta crap done to them n is there anything i can do?

this is reli unfair

You have every right to know and ask what the officer is doing whilst around your car. You have every right to see/know the rules when referring to them. What you needed to do was get a badge number from both officers. People need to get in the habit of asking this. It's in your right to know!

As far as I know, you can't be fined twice for the same offence/defect. Someone feel free to correct me if not the case.

If I were you, I would contest it. Write a letter to the ombudsman, get legal advice if you have to. What they've done sounds very unjust and should be taken further. I wouldn't pay a cent before getting legal advice. Don't think you could contest the defect, that sounds legitimate, unfortunately. But the fines are another matter.

Best of luck mate.

ye i asked for his badge number n him n his mate come right up to my face n told me to go stand next my car...n they also took a photo of my car...the leader paper was there too, i hope they dun put me n there coz like my nanna read thats

My cars never defectable, but they're always so rude.. a while ago they searched my car, without even asking me, pulled the trims off the sides of my doors and threw everything out of my boot on the ground.. they wouldnt give me badge numbers either but i think they were from some drug related thing.. dacked my mate on the roadside and put there hands around his boxers to.. lol, least it was a chick cop..

See man... South-Eastern suburbs is poo!!

YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE ANY OF THIS CRAP FROM ANY COPS AROUND NORTHERN SUBURBS!

yeah, right..

Eltham TMU is full of the biggest bunch of rude arseholes i have ever met. Took my license away and defected me while driving my little runabout car, i'm trying to do the right thing and not drive my "powerful and dangerous" car every day, and still get screwed.

where was this station set up? i saw one just up the road from noble maccas on friday night, is that the one?

also it would have been wise to put a front licence plate on after u got caught the 1st time

Underbody neons can be used whilst driving, as long as they do not effect ground clearance, are installed with all connections and wiring in a safe manner with a seperate circuit and switch and they must also meet the adr for lighting, ie no red or blue neons, other colors are fine.

Your head lights are factory like this, obviously he had no idea.

wiring under dash that is loose or can interfere with the operation of the pedals is defectable

handbrake, well he has to find something else to fill the space on the defect and honestly every car could be defected because the officer beleives the handbrake to be unroadworthy, remember, they dont have to proove it, just assume it.

As for the number plate, yes you can be fined twice, regardless of body kit modifications etc.

Under Victorian Law tthe officers in question must give you, badge number, reporting station ( where they are from), current rank and superior officer's name. If they fail to do that they have broken the law.

You will find one of the officers name and numbers on your fines, then write to the office of police integrity about this, be specific in your complait, dont exagerate or manipulate the story. Also send a copy of the complaint to the station they are based from.

It may not help you at all with your double fine, but at least you can make it hard for them at promotion time in front of the police board.

As far as the double fine goes, dont ask for advice on a forum , you will get 100 wrong answers, go to a lawyer that sepcialises in traffic infringements and get factual information on where you stand.

Thanks Officer

Thanks Officer :P

Please note, I am not a cop, have never been a cop, dont ever intead on being a cop and generally have the same lack of trust in them as everyone else.

I do however have a few senior contacts within TMU that are personal friends and I ask them stuff when I want to know.

Cheers

Kewl, thanks mate, i will follow that up about the badge number, how do i write 2 the police integrity? The wires were hanging like about 4 or 5 cm from under the dash, not even touching my leg let alone the pedals. My car is high like a 4wd too n u cant even see 1 neon wire n there never on in the first place. Im pretty sure they just made all the rest up coz they couldnt find nefing wrong in my stock engine bay..ill write up a letter 2day n 2moz n will post bak the outcomes. Thanks dudes.

lol sounds like the same cop that i had, he was on a power trip and i was being nice till i found out he was just being a dick so i gave it back to him and then he seemed quite nice :P still got me for everything. Was there like a full set up near chaddy where they were directing all modified cars to a side street?

I have pink lights installed under the dash to light up the footwells.. I was told by a snr sgt that its fine to install them but they cant be on whilst driving. I think its the same for underbody neons.

PJ are you sure it's legal to have them on?

Oh and the only legal colour is green btw.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
