More *hoon Events :)* At Sandown.

Recommended Posts

The media has the power to poison peoples minds in regard to topics that don't normally interest them, any positive coverage is beneficial to our cause and what we stand for here at SAU.

That said, I am confused because the line between enthusiast and hoon is blurring and It would seem that with what is being said, I must be a hoon. Being a hoon is not trendy at the moment so perhaps i should stop enjoying my throttle and buy a diesel moped or something.

I have a very busy work and family life and find it hard to even catch up with friends these days, I love my cars and would like to see events more local to me that are legal.

CBF with crap like this, the thread started well and has slipped down hill unnecessarily.

I am not a fan of street racing but know where I came from, education is helpful in this regard and legal events should be encouraged.

This discussion puts me in mind of when I was a kid growing up with skateboarding and blading. Lots of media around our area was telling people to hate skateboarders and bladers who "hung out" around public areas breaking public property and putting passers by at risk. IIRC they even banned it entirely in the CBD. Then some bright little spark said hey, what about if we build skateparks where they can enjoy their hobby together and be out of harms way. Do you see a skateboard problem today?

exactly ;)

How many innocent people have had their lives ended/destroyed/changed forever by skateboarders in the last 5 years?

Try putting things into perspective rather than attempting to equate the situation to something which essentially has no relevance.

You're comparing a skateboard to a 2 tonne hunk of metal moving at 100+ kph.

A skateboard may put out around.... oh.... let's be generous and say 60db max when it's slammed into the ground as hard as you can manage, compared to the constant 90+db noise of droning exhausts and spinning tyres which can be heard 4+ kilometers away.

Re: stuff in the paper, the only thing I can see is yet another article which is full of tripe, with inaccurate "facts" (eg: there are only 20 days of the year when motorsport events are held at sandown...LOL!) and re-confirmation that more hoon events are simply not going to happen.

....maybe I'm looking at the wrong bit?

Links? Scans?

lots of people die from head on drunken collisions on skateboards... dont u read the news

show me the number of innocent people killed in illegal drag racing... i hardly think it would measure on any scale

there is relevance... something productive was done to a "social problem" which ended up working. if yo9u cant see a relevance or some sort of link between the 2 problems i think you have issues :spank:

I fail to see how that has ANY relevance....all it does is provide a stronger case that there needs to be venues set up so that this shit can take place legally and safely, as it poses much more of a threat to society than skateboarders.

Ni, go take a look at the stats in regards to speed related deaths in Victoria. I know these stats are left open to interpretation, and illegal street racing is hard to prove in many instances, but closing your eyes to something doesn't mean it doesn't happen, and it doesn't make it go away.

anyhoo, you want examples, here's a couple that google offered

nyah and nyah

...and you know there are many more, I won't bore you with them.

For those who are old enough to remember Melbournes first skate park, you'd be well aware that people were willing to travel as long as it took to get there, just so that they could have a good time without causing a danger to other people, and without being fined for doing something where it wasn't considered safe to be doing it.

...and the majority of these people didn't have access to transport of their own, other than their board.

This isn't the same situation at all.

There are venues for people who want to drag race.

...but "it's too far" or "it costs too much" or ......pick an excuse.

Do you see F1 drivers taking it to the streets because there isn't a track in their backyard?

Do aerobatic fanatics choose a patch of sky to play in and just go for it?

NO!

There seems to be a basic misunderstanding here, and that is, people just don't seem to see the problem with street racing.

Racing is dangerous even when done on a track.

Just ask Todd Wilkes, or Peter Brock, or Ayrton Senna .........oh wait.. they all died in racing accidents, so you can't ask them.

People drive around in their "sports cars" thinking that they're the best thing on earth, and have no basic comprehension of the fact that what is marketed as a "sports car" is nothing more than a family car with a particular badge stuck on it, and it doesn't in any way make it a vehicle which is fit to race, especially in an uncontrolled environment.

You know I could go on all day, but alas, I have things to do.

Scan that article when you get home nark!

Speed related deaths are not what we are talking about...

We are talking about illegal drag racing re: Noble Park Maccas

This is what this is all about. Lots of people die from speeding and those stats are filled with people who are not partaking in illegal street drags... people doing 1kmh over in any accident, drunk, asleep whatever.

If anything is irrelevant, that is.

Do F1 drivers go to the streets? No because they have access to testing grounds and tracks which they can use at their disposal.

Do aerobatic flyboys do it anywhere... no but they have designated areas they can and they are a far select few with machines costing a lot more then your average holden or skyline not to mention the amount of training and discipline that is involved in it... do you see everyday mos just getting in a plane and going in the air? no... so once again... irrelevant.

Saying that it wont aid in the issue based on that is pretty silly at best.

There is no right or wrong answer and i dont understand why your arguing over it. YOUR opinion is that it isnt going to work... OUR opinion is that it will help.

WE are trying to get that point across in the local media, not as an excuse, but to show another side to the argument that WE feel is valid.

Opinions are great things... unless its not your own.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
