Bl4ck32....why did you go with a custom 1 piece tailshaft?

Cubes et al....is there actually that much meat on the '32 engine mounts that you can slot them 13/15 mm? On the R33 the mounts are minimalist alloy items and that much would almost cut through. Since my entire front end is now on a pallet on the floor I may take some pictures and measurements of my setup...

Joel:

In your PDF its says that u changed the 25 idler pulley to a tensioner pulley.

Were these 30 or 25 items?.

My 25 pulleys are rooted, I can get 2 x 30 tensioners (I asked for VL RB30E ones) for cheaper than 25 ones, also how much did u get ur Gates 94407 timing belt for?

cheers.

I've got a question, when you guys have relocated the tensioners, have you tapped the spike/bolt for the spring to push/spring on, to get the self tensioning effect, or have you just adjusted them by hand and tightened them, if you know what i mean....

I'd like to know too.

The RB30E tensioner pulley has a second stud to stop the spring from spinning around, I havent seen anyone use the second stud in a RB30/25/26

This is from memory.. (again) lol

The drivers side is basically a piece of sheet metal shaped in to an engine mount. That was redrilled with no issues, old holes then filled in and hit it with the grinder.

The passenger side engine mount had the flat plate bit that bolts on to the engine ground off then rewelded (much better I might add) lower.

The tensioners are all the same, RB30/20/25/26.

I bought a new RB20DET item which used 2 internal bearings next to each other.

I then ordered a RB30 item as they had them in stock and found they only use one bearing. lol Typical holden. :P

I didn't bother with the spring as the tensioners are locking tensioners and require roughly 20kg's of tension on the belt.

The spring doesn't tension the belt correctly, it pulls up the slack to make life easier when fitting.

The belt.. $37.50.

Bl4ck32....why did you go with a custom 1 piece tailshaft?

r33 gearbox (with custom gearbox x member to bolt it into a r32), tailshaft, and modified speedo sender came out of another r32. Also had the r33 yoke etc. So it was a bolt in upgrade from that point.

It weighs heaps less too. I dont know how that would affect performance though :) ....or....lack of

Ben,

Stupid me.. I didn't write it down anywhere.

It may be on my oldies computer as that is where I dropped the motor in.

Failing that I will give Shaun a buzz as he knows :(

Oh great! lol..

Well I am probably going to do it tomorrow.. so if your around.. please try and get the info! :D

I just like the idea of not having to worry about a worn belt letting go, or a tensioner bearing bolt snapping to blow my motor. I reckon around 80,000 is a good time...hell why not 50,000 kms when the two tensioners + belt comes to $220 for a major service.. :)

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
