just thinking about the volumes of these return lines, if the volume gets too high it might cos a block

in the system and not allow the oil to return fast enough.. just a thought.

Well yer thats the idea behind it. BUT realistically have you seen the size of the turbo's oil return?

Have you seen the size of the heads internal oil return?

Its massive. >_<

I really don't think the T'ing in is the issue, I think its the overall setup. Oil pump used + oil restrictors used.

All the ppls I know of that are or have had issues is due to the oil restrictors.

My tuner has recently done a VL rb30/25 that had the same issue, he's in the process of ripping the head off and dropping smaller restrictors in it.

3/4" is about 19mm or 19.05 (if your a fitter'n'turner) which is a pretty bloudy big ID. So assuming that running nothing higher then a normal det oil pump and some form of head restriction or not?? T'ing into the return is prob gonna be ok. In the case of running a N1 oil pump or a/m equivalent with no head restriction and T'ing into the return will probably (no exact proof yet) cause some sort of return restriction. (based on Joels comment about the T'ing)

So in the case of that setup occuring then the most likely and easy fix is to give the head return its own bung and line into the sump somewhere. Otherwise it will be time to remove head and put restrictors in.

Everyone else agree that would be the obvious fix/mod to rectify or prevent that problem from occuring.

In my own engine Im going to run restrictors/the std head return into the sump/another return from back of head into sump and hopefully that will be enough to manage the oil control problem.(race car though) needs to be overkilled.

yeah, i have to braze (could be braise) a lug into the sump for the oil temp guage anyway, so i'll just pop another one in there for the head return, better off not risking it, if it COULD cause an issue.

once its in, i dont wanna take it back out lol :laugh:

RE: Heater Fittings.

I'm not sure I know what you mean, any pics?

The RB30 block requires you to screw out (rear of the block drivers side) the rb30 item and screw in the rb20/25 item. You are also required to remove the pressed in water connection located on the thermostat housing as the rb30's item is once again different.

These parts can be had from nissan new, they are cheap. :laugh:

Thats the only heater hose block attachments I can think of.

Pic attached is of the rb30 block with the rb20 rear heater hose attachment (as can be seen to the left of the green knock sensor and the other water hose attachment poking out of the thermostat housing.

While on the topic of heater hoses etc... PLEASE AVOID GROMMET rubber hosing/fuel hosing at all costs.

Its total crap, my grommet efi fuel hose began to crack after 1year and another grommet heater hose I used became very very hard resulting in slight coolant leaks when the car was viewed first thing in the morning.

HAHAHA well arent i silly .. as i only have bare block, i think i was refering to the knock sensors .. the green things near 5-6 and 2-3 Cyls.

cant see on my car what they connect too, and they look like hose connections..

well the info on the hose connections on the thermostat i didn't know..

im using 600psi hydrolic hoses for everything .. from Enzed :laugh: think they are coated for use with fuels.

think i'll wanna replace every water hose in my engine bay, after the turbo install i had 3 lines bust.. hate trying to fix them.. always hard to get to!

always under the inpression the tomei one came with it, i like how greenline shows the CR change with each of the different gaskets . good info to keep for working out what CR i'll run later.

Ahhh yes, datalogit would be awesome to get.. i still have to figure out how to turn the closed loop back on on the pfc.. things its in etc and the top one. but not sure what the jap symbol should look like..

only reason i think its not on, it because the AFR guage doesn't "bounce" when cruising like it used to..

hmm more reading, i should be working lol :laugh:

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
