I’m looking at importing a vehicle for the purposes of using it for track work only. But I am under sure of what events I will be able to enter and if there are enough events to make it worth while for me to import the vehicle.

What I would like to know is if I import a vehicle under the RACE/RALLY import scheme. What events in Perth (WA) can I enter? I’m guessing it will depend on the car –if so I’m looking at sourcing possible an r32 GTR, or 95-00 WRX or EVO. I don’t want to make a choice without knowing what events I can and can’t enter.

I’m guessing if I head towards the WRX or EVO, I would be able to enter rally events? (is there some sort of lower end group I can enter?)

I’ve done abit of looking but haven’t found much on what events are run in Perth and what regulation they have, if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful

Also, i current have a Cams Level 2 license, would it be in my best interested to uprade to a National Level Licence?

edit: i have just been reading the CAMS website and have come across more information on the Licences, Does anyone have more information on the observed licence test (OLT) ?

edit2x: I have done mc events in the pass, and i remember alot of the mc events you need a road reg vehicle will i be unable to enter such events with a RACE/RALLY imported Scheme Vehicle

Thanks Michael

Im part way through getting my lvl 3 (Provisional License) which im pretty sure it what you need to import a race/rally car, unless you have a mate or someone who can do it for you.

Hi mate, there is a race class in WA that our cars fit into, it allows more mods than most of the state classes. I'd suggest calling the CAMS WA State office and they can put you in touch with whoever runs the series.

In NSW there are GTRs with CAMS in 3E and 3J (Production and Improved Production) and AASA are also running some events which allow decent mods now too. There is a Targa class in Tas and SA which allow skylines. I'm pretty sure there are no Skylines racing in Vic.

To import a race car you need NC Cams license, so you are probably best having someone import it for you. If you want to be able to run in rallies as well you need an NR license for Rally imports, then you need to talk to your state rego authority about what you need for rego. Rally rego should allow you to compete in rallies, drive to practice and workshops.

I don't know what the MC events are, but if you had rally rego that would be sufficient. As long as you mod the car to Tarmac Rally regulations (available from CAMS) you can enter things like rallywa or targa tas. If not things like Dutton Rally have no rules.

You need to decide on the regs you are building to first - otherwise you will find yourself pulling lots of expensive stuff back off the car and returning it to standard

Getting an NC license is pretty much impossible unless you already have a race car - you need to get a PC license first (attend a flags lecture and pass the OLT), then you need to be observed by the clerk of course for 6 race meets to upgrade to NC. Took me about 18 months.

The OLT is pretty straightforward, it is basically a mini race that you do in whatever car you have to show you aren't a lunatic. In NSW they are normally done as part of an advanced driving course, although they run a couple of sessions a year before race meets with just the OLT. Once again check with the WA State office.

Good luck >_<

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
