hmmm... last friday i had a near miss thanks to a dumbass taxi manuver... i was behind one at a set of lights... 3 lanes all turn left (anzac pde into oxford street)... i was in the far left lane... taxi driver starts out pretty quick (yay) the first car in teh center lane is a bit slow... so i megrge across fast while there's still a gap... only now the taxi that was in front of me starts merging across too (only i'm beside it and there's absolutely no where for it to go and there's no way I could stop... with nowhere else to go I just floored it and took the far right lane (kinda pissing off the guy in the 4WD who i half cut off) ...

but yeah my top 3 hates list are:

1) vans (these pricks do the craziest manuvers ... one tried to run me off the road once (intetionally)

2) Taxi drivers... just as bad as van drivers cept i can see through them and give em a little more respect as they spend there whole existance on the road and none has yet tried to run me off the road.

3) big ass 4WDs you can't see around em you can't see through them... and there friggen slow most of the time.

I think atm the best drivers on the road as far as i'm conserned would be R33/32 Skyline drivers... they drive pretty quick and don't get in my way.... and there not in that catogry of cars which are so expensive that most of their owners drive them painfully slow.

oh yeah.. i'd just love it if someone came and rammed my skyline up the rear... I already got some body damage and as i'm all insured free repairs would be sweet :)

i got a new front end thanks to this asian guy (student) in a new honda prelude (daddy probably bought it for him) who came passed this stop sign collided with a car in the intersection, spun round and hit the front of my car... i was in a lecture at the time... but the cops left a note on my windscreen... i came back to my car and was like #%$@$! WTF?!! i got a ticket?!?! ... oh cool... someone just crashed into my car... well thats ok. cost me a few phone calls to the cops and insurer i got a courtsy car for free for a week or so and it was all sorted... parra smash repairs did a good job. there NRMA approved and 5/5 star (got a classy looking reception area and I guess are friggen expensive... so its all good if your insured :D)

hehe... well .. .do you drive regularly around the CBD?

ok ... let me clarify.... city driving is like twice (or 10x) as crazy as anywhere else... now the interesting thing is some vans are genreally bad everywhere... whereas cabbies at least seem to get better the further away from the city they are.

I would have to say one of the most dangerous things on the road is a taxi on the lookout for a fare. They will do crazy shit to pick up passengers, it's as if they think if they don't do an instant u-turn across double lines or slam on the ABS as hard as possible then some other phantom taxi will beat them to the passenger.

Even when dropping off sometimes they will slam on the brakes to pull up or go around a corner without indicating because they didn't understand their passenger yelling out to them where to stop or turn. For these reasons I always get ahead of taxis asap especially if they're not carrying passengers.

As for a smash repairer, how new is the rest of your paint? Even if it's in good condition but it's the original paint, respraying the rear quarter of the car will be noticable when compared to the front. It will also age differently so the difference will get more noticable as time goes on.

This is the reason why when I got rear-ended I got a full respray of the car along with the rear quarter. It cost me some $$$ on top but nowhere near the same price as it would have cost if the repairs weren't being footed by the insurance company.

If you want a full respray then ask the workshops what sort of discount they'll give you on respraying the rest of the car. If your insurance company is a good one you'll be able to go to any workshop you like so you can get the best possible deal.

hahhahaah GO Ken!

actually, R33s do rule the Streets!

AND my first accident was because of a TAXI too. I was at the lights on King Street, Sydney and started to proceed into the intersection as a taxi decided to run the red. Next thing u know, half of the taxi's bonnet was on my mum's $30K camry! yeeeer!

chills peeps.

Lol!! :P

I try to avoid taxis at all costs... I don't know how many times I've turned a corner and had a taxi just screech up in the middle of the road for passengers..

You need to watch out for buses (and trucks), not because they're bad drivers, but because they have long vehicles (need extra lanes to turn), a lot of momentum (long time to stop), a lot of weight (slow acceleration), and buses do have right of way in Sydney - if they pull out and hit a car, it's the car's fault for not giving way. If you see a bus put it's indicators on, and you're not already half-way past him, stop for him and wait.

Does anyone have problems with hire cars? I've noticed that most of them are ok, but you do get the foriegners who drive a little scarily

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
