Hey guys, I'll be moving from sydney to hobart in about 5 weeks and will most probably be driving down and then catching the ferry. Just got a few questions before i do the trip.

1) How much does it cost to put my car on the ferry from vic?

2) After reading another post from 2004 it seems like there was no 98RON feul there. Is there any now? If not what do you guys do about getting petrol that the car will run good with?

Thanks guys.

hay mate, the car is sepperate $68 on top of the fair.

We have 98+ BP now no probs.

Thanks heaps for the info. I thyought it would be more than $68. How long does it take??

I was getting worried when first i heard there was no 98ron.

The spirit is an overnight trip, they start unloading at 7:00 in the morning.

Just found the site then. I can't believe it's cheaper for my car than it is for me to go. Can i sit in my car on the trip so it's for free???? :)

mmmmmm, big skylines tasmania welcoming cruise perhaps???

I'm up for that. Will give me a chance to see the place and meet some of you guys. I will post up when i will be there when i actually have a confirmed date. It should be before the 2nd of april i think.

What will you be doing in hobart?

I just started working for the ABC and they wan't me to go to a smaller branch so i get more hands on work with the equipment and be in a more friendly environment than here in Sydney. One of my trainers is from hobart and was saying how nice the view is from his house. Sounds like a really nice place down there. Can't wait to go.

Yeah it is really good here mate for that reason i wonder if u are talking about a mate of mine who works at there his name is jono simpson u will meet him there i reckon when u start anyway i am keen for a cruise 2.

- I once met a couple who moved down from sydney not really knowing what to expect, I was chatting to him while she read the paper, she let out a rather loud "S**T!... the average temperature in summer is 16 degrees!" poor lady was nearly in tears.

Nice place tho, you will like the twisty roads - one of my favourites is 10 minutes from where I live

Hahahaha.

Thats what my girlfriend said when i said we are going to Hobart. She is coming aswell and has to buy all new clothes. I'm sure she is complaining about that.

Thats what i'm looking forward to. Who cares about the cold when your going around nice and twisty roads. It's all worth while.

Are the roads over there on the twisties smooth or bumpy. Here in the national park where the good twisties are the road is absolutley crap with pot holes and rough surfaces.

Apparently i should eventually meet everyone so i would assume i will meet him. What department does he work in there????

Not intirely sure mate he edits alot of sport stories i think not a 100 percent though but yeah u will bump into him i reakon.

I'll have to actually work on the edit suits for a bit so i might run into him there or if he has problems with the edit suites i might have to help fix it. So maybe maybe not i guess.

Hi jantolis,

I have been sent this link by a few members so I thought I'd join up. I've been with the ABC for around six years now, I do a few different tasks including video editing, transmission, and also operate the EVS on OB's.

So I'm guessing you are a techo? We get a lot of journalists doing placement here, as Hobart is a good place to learn (lots of hands on experience). Its a great branch to work at, & most are very friendly. It will be good to get some more young blood in the building, half the staff will be retiring soon haha.

We have a very secure car park also, so you won't have to worry about the GTR.

I guess I'll be meeting you shortly,

Jono

Hi Jono,

Yeah I'm meant to be working in tech services over there but I will have to do a fair bit more than just work there from what i hear. I'm looking forward to doing some hands on stuff because for the last month i've just been doing training coarses and it's boring. I'm going to have to do some work on all the edit suites and go out on OB's so it should be fun. It seems like there is lots to do working for the ABC. Good to hear about the nice secure carpark aswell.

Apparently I will be staying possibly within walking distance from the building. That would be very handy(takes me an hour by train currently). I find out next week for certain where i will be staying. I met one guy who came up here to train a few of us and he was from Hobart. Do you know Jim Parish????

Well see you in about a month.

Johnny

Hey guys,

I have a few options for where i am able to move but there are a couple of problems. I don't have the outside photos of these places. I was wondering if someone would be able to go and take a photo of some places or atleast tell me if it looks like crap. They are around the sandy bay area and one in south hobart. One of the places looks like it's in a decent location but i'm not sure if it has street parking.

1) The first place is unit 11 / 1 plimsol place sandy bay - The location is right near the casino. This place doesn't have parking so i was wondering if someone could see if i can park on the street.

2) unit 1 / 812 sandy bay road - it's a decent drive away from hobart but from a photo i can see it has an awesome view.

3) Lastly there is unit 1 / 2 Ingram street south hobart - I think it's near the hospital or something.

If any of you live near any of these places and would be able to take a photo or be able to tell me if the places look like crap then that would be great, if not then don't worry.

Thanks heaps guys,

Cheers,

Johnny

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
