I would say the RB30DE TT - Twin Turbo motor should bolt into a 300Z - as that was one of the factory options in Japan for the 300ZX.

Pity you don't really get Skylines over there - they are so much more nimble and better around corners than a heavy 300ZX.

A R32 GTSt weights a mere 1150kg (1kg=2.2lbs)

A twin turbo motor is a bit expensive...but I would not be sure a RB25DET would fit, as the 300Z engine bay contains a 3.0L 6 as standard.

Maybe someone who actually knows about 300Z's should reply, as I am stumbling over my own bullshit here...:(

Mildman, um no, I don't think so.

The RB30DETT was never put into a production car.

:)

rx7machine, yes the dollar is our currency (AUD$)

Here is an earlier model with an RB26DETT, so you may be able to squeeze an RB25 in there. :D

Hmm , not bad , total bullshit and all in one post.

The Nissan option was a VG30dett which is a V6 , not a straight 6.

If your R32 weighs 1150KG then I'm sure a few guys who race them will pay good money for it.

An RB series engine will fit but the question is why would you bother for the expense ?

Cheers

Ken

Waz.

Dry weight that is...but 1280kg is closer to the truth for a 2dr.

Boy o boy - I will have to actually curb the instinct to talk crap in future...let me retract my earlier statements. (I was on such a roll on other questions that I actually know a little bit about - I just got over enthusiastic in a big way)

Let it be known I official know "shit" about Z's. (I'll stick to Skylines)

Lucky I put that comment about bullshit in hey?

Guest rx7machine

See I was planning on buying a cheap 300Z.. maybe a (2+2) model and putting a skyline engine it in..(the best one I could afford..) but I'm not sure what all would be involved with it.. plus, I'm not even sure if it would be worth it.. How much do new and used engines cost? thanks

Eric

    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
    • Hey all. I’m looking on replacing my speed sensor on my R33 GTR. Will the center differential need to be drained, and if so, the center diff uses ATF fluid D? I found information on the transmission, front diff and rear diff. Can’t find a for sure answer for the center diff. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
