Most service parts (Ie: Gasket's, barings blah blah) can be bought from Nissan itself. I should know I just did my head gasket and every other gasket genuin nissan. It was a TON cheaper then Autobarn and stuff.

As for looking after them. The turbo models need to be well maintained. Changing oil every 7000k's. Spark plugs every 30000k's or so. They need to be well looked after, far more then normal VN's and stuff.

Anyone can buy a Skyline. But can you afford to maintain it, run it, and insure it?

The most you probably will ever pay for is consumables - Oil, Oil filter, Spark plugs, Tyres and/or modifications lol :)

If you do the regular maintenance as described above it will give you trouble free motoring really

Fuel costs - i get around 500k's per tank (only mods are cat back exhust, pod & boost controller running std boost) - i fill up around the 1/4 mark and it takes around 45+ litres and costs $50+

Nissan still make the parts of have them in stock at least, besides there are soo many wreckers out there with these cars in their yards that you wont have anything to worry about...

Some parts vary in price but as they all do... but the aftermarket scene for these cars and motors is unbeliveable, everything and anything you could want for a car (but all at a price)

If you don't want to overly modify your car and just do basic mods like Link said then you will get away with it cheaper... if your going for performance and highly modify the car then could cost you a pretty penny..

If your on a budget do basic mods and have fun wit it :)

Best car i've driven personally (havnt driven many tho lol)... fell in love with them straight away!

*sheds a tear* :)

yeah you should find something you would be happy with for 13k. a series 2 might be a little more. i got my series 1 95 for 11, so you just got to be lucky and do some hardcore searching theres a "plethera" of parts people trade on here, plus shops, mags, ebay.. so you should be sweet. i personally pay 1400 for insurance, being male, having a turbo, and being under 25, you definetly have the odds against you with insurance.

good luck with the hunting

Official Nissan parts are expensive. But you shouldn't need to buy many official Nissan parts unless your car turns out to be a bit of a lemon. Even then, there are usually alternative third party options available.

If you need new headlight for a S2 R33 (S1 different), expect to pay $250-300 per headlight secondhand and about $500EA new.

Comprehensive insurance for under 25. Your best bet is Justcarsinsurance. Google them and get a quote online - double-check the details on the quote once you get it back though.

I just want a normal skyline wid single turbo n bodykit.. nothing speedy lol.. I just like the looks :)

I been searching j-spec imports.. u can get a nice skyline r33 s2 96 under 14k. Would you import a car from japan or buy it in Australia. Only thing suprises me with japanese cars is the km's on them lol.. if they real or not. All those cars are under 100 000 km's .. is it true that in jap you can't drive a car ova 100 000 km due to enviroment or somthing thats what i heard.

you can judge a low k's car usually... very clean... dusn't look warn out... not many aftermarket parts and all that shit.. just look likes a virgin r33 and a very clean one lol

insurance for me is around $1500 being under 25 n the mods n stuff but if you've never had insurance before probably around 2k sounds likely... your suburb/town sometimes effects price, garaged etc etc...

just keep a look out... even look on here... car dealers can be dodgy but just research your car prior to commitment like your doing now... but just dont rush! biggest mistake you can make is rushing...

Hi guys,

Im interested in buying an R33 GTS-t 93 problem im having troubles with is that the one im after is stock as a rock and has only 45,000km now whether or not that is true or not but anyway its $16,000 and basically in perfect condition. My main problem is the fuel consumption, I drive on the Freeway at about 6am every morning so there is hardly any traffic and it is basically 100km all the way to work but on the way home is generally a different case where im sometimes caught up in traffic, I was just wondering if anyone could base xkm/L on what I just wrote because I cant find a set figure anywhere! (This be driving normally with giving it a bit of stick here and there :D )

Just got some set questions as well if anyone can answer...be most appreciated

1) What kind of servicing do I need to maintain on the R33 GTS-t to keep it running well i.e. timing belts, turbo servicing and costs involved....

2) Where abouts can you find parts for an R33 at the wreckers or something? And generally what parts fail mechanical wise

3) How much are tyres to replace (high profile) each?

4) Is a 180sx fuel consumption less than GTS-t because its only a 2.0L 4 cylinder?

5) How bad does the back end step out for a first RWD driver owner :P

6) Are the engines "well built" ive heard there not as good as the Supra engine

You probably get this everyday but I really cant be screwed looking all over the place aand you guys obvoiusly seem to know what your on about...and as I said before and feedback would be great.

Cheers

Timing belts generally get replaced each 100,000ks. Engines oils every 500ks.

You can find R33 parts everywhere. Jap wreckers will have tons of stuff. There isn't a whole lot that goes wrong with them... generally.

About $180ea. Roughly (quoted, 255 Fed SS595s)

Depends how the 180 is driven. R33 will manage 500k per tank on highway I think

Alot. Watch the wet roads, gtsts looovvvvve to slip n slide.

No... they're not as bullet proof as the 2JZ, or the RB26 (RB ain't as good as 2JZ either). But, the RB25DET is strong. They come stock at about 145rwkw, and it's very very common for them to handle ~250rwkw on stock internals.

just read that you have to fill up with high octane fuel is that right? And I got another question why doesnt the car im looking at have an intercooler? is it because the type of engine uses a water cooling system instead of an air cooling system for the turbo?

You do have to use 98octane. Don't ever use 95.

All gtsts that dont have an aftermarket intercooler should have a SMIC which will be located on the passenger side of the car.

thanks for reply's

I been searching import websites , cars in stock they all are to to expensive with low km's. For example 96 skkyline done 50 000 km's.. thats impossibe in 10 years that car has to be done more than over 100 000k.. km clocks are wonded back :miner:

Can you guys recommend any good yards websites, those who you can trust.. I want to get it from a dealer coz you get warranty --thats the one reason why i choose dealers. :ninja:

Any ideas n help would be appreciated ..

    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
    • Hi, Will the R33 GTR rear brake backing plates fit a GTST? I'm struggling to find GTST ones but can find new GTR ones.   Thanks.
    • I also got the same floor mats for a bit of extra bazzaz haha
    • Some more close up pics now that I’m back to working on the car, the loop pile is nice but again haven’t compared it to the other types in person, it’s hard to tell from the pics on the website. View of the hemming on the edges too, it comes in 2 pieces - front and back, honestly very happy with it for anyone on the fence.  Also attached my previous pics from further up as it didn’t let me post them directly before. (Nothing worse than photo bucket pics that aren’t hosted anymore years later)
