G'Day guys,

I was reading on here awhile ago about the best EBC controller to get, but can't find the post now!

It was saying something about getting a dual solenoid EBC and that the AVCR is not the greatest choice. What do you guys recommend as a good EBC? Models etc.

Currently I have the following:

3 inch turbo-back exhaust

Pod filters (going back to airbox very soon)

Planned shortly:

2860R's (Garrett)

PFC

Injectors (prolly 555cc)

Fuel pump upgrade

So basically whats a good EBC to get at the moment that will work with the planned upgrades? I have done a search, but was wading thru shit completely unrelated and couldn't fine what I was looking for. Want one thats reliable and safe (no boost spikes etc)

If you know a good thread, post the link!

Cheers,

Dan :)

Anything from the major jap companys will do what your asking for. It really comes down to will you use the extra features and how much do you want to spend.

Im using an ID3 from blitz. Its okay but I could really get away with a profec b or similar as I dont use anything extra that the ID3 provides.

In my oppinion the AVCR is just full or features no one would really ever use.

Guys, for what I want (described in first post) would a GREDDY PROFEC B-SPEC II ELECTRONIC BOOST CONTROLLER be the way to go?

Cheers!

Dan :(

I have that specific EBC and it seems to work well

if I have a mate drive I hit the 'low boost' button :ninja:

[edit]

I have noticed I get a boost spike on the high setting at very high rpm just on gear change but I have a feeling its my tune (big fuel dump at 7k rpm)

Betz, when you say you get a boost spike, how much is it? Any danger? Im after getting one, but just want some people who have used it to let me know how it is.

Cheers!

it seems to do a pretty good job Jonesy, my stock turbos are dialed in at .9bar and it only spikes to around 1.2bar if the oil is hot and the air outside is cool.

if it does spike it rights itself very quickly and if I'm holding high rpm it drops back to .9-1bar, I look at it as a bit of an extra ride at 6k rpm +

mind you my car made its maximum power figure at a low 6000 rpm so it stands to reason on the gas up to 7.2-7.5k rpms I'm going to get a little more boost in there.

I spoke to Lee at MPC after I got my car back and he said its fine aslong as its not doing it all the time or it stays above 1.2 with it floored on the freeway or the like.

Blitz Spec R EBC For the Win mate. They are basic to use have 4 settings and are very effective. Your mods you wanna do are basicly exactly what i have in my 32 GTR and will hold boost perfectly at 1.3 bar no matter what the weather conditions. I have had the Avcr in my old Evo and was nice to look at but a tad confusing at times and swaped to the blitz. I haven't used the Greddy myself but have had mixed reports from others.

But definatly Blitz Spec R FTW.

    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.

    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
