im on greens (in NSW) so i dont have restricitions on driving my r33 gtst but its still a pain in the ass cos i get pulled over everytime i sit in my car. I dont speed or anything and the cop always says im just pulling you over to do a licence check, fair enough but then it gives them an excuse to do RBT, defect checks, i get my number plates checked to make sure car isnt stolen etc.

it takes like 30min everytime and i am always late for work. i Have to leave 30min earlier than normal and its bloody stupid.

Its getting to the stage of harrassement!!!!!

The reason you get bothered is because of the other muppet P-Platers in here who think they have a right to drive illegally. If P-platers wonder why older drivers aren't sympathetic - it is because a large number of (though obviously not all) P-Platers in a Skyline act up and make life difficult for reasonable car enthuasists.

I think those guys need to discovery the power of VTEC......

I'm a green p-plater was well (not for much longer yay!) and drive a worked gts-t. Like what most of you have been saying, I was lucky enough to get my p's before the cut off date and restrictions came in. :)

I have to say they are a good thing and a bad thing, when you're doing your allowed 100km/h along the 110km/h highway and some idiot fully licenced driver speeding and almost take off your ass end because he's too stupid to notice your P's on your car, I feel a little safer knowing I have that extra power to avoide a potentially dangerous situation, also with merging on highways you can get up to speed a sh*tload faster.

*Touches wood* I haven't had any troubles with cops so far and hope I don't any time soon. It's a shame that the rest of you get picked on :P

hate to burst your bubble, but i think that if you get your P's AFTER the cut off date, then it's for both green and red P's. (i don't care if it's been mentioned before, i really couldn't be f*cked reading through the rest of the posts after mapge 2).

As for troubles with the cops, never had them. Only been pulled over once by an undercover, didn't even do a defect check, just a breath test and off he went. The other two times was during the cronulla riots ( i live in the shire, so it was on my way home), didn't get searched though.

I wonder if they really do check though.

The moral of the story is, P platers shouldnt drive high perfomance because most are like me.. stupid, have a need for speed and in-experenced. I feel driving in a less powered car is a good way to work up to a high powered car as I wouldnt have been able to drive out of some of the situations ive put myself in without being in those other cars first.

Exactly. I've been driving for 10 years and I STILL make the occasional brain fart. They become less frequent with age and experience helps you get out of them. There is no substitute for experience, overconfidence when you're on your Ps can be a killer especially when mixed with a powerful car.

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
