Boot Lever Not Working?

Hey guys yesterday my boot lever was working I pulled the lever the boot opened..now nothing is this a common problem and how do I fix???

If you can open it with the key have a look where the boot lid clips into there is a little switch like thing that can go up or down (or side to side i forget).

It pretty much turns the boot leaver on or off.
