i also have an air pod,cat back exhaust adn boost controller running 12 psi. i am just wondering wat i should be doing next?? should i upgrade my ecu or is there anything else that i can do that doesnt cost as much as a new ecu??

should i upgrade my fuel pump?

and also i am after a dyno tune and run and i live in north east victoria and am wonderign if any of you guys know any good dyno tuners up this way at all?

Theres plenty of information in regards on what to do next depending on what power your aiming for, its all can be searched for.

Looking at your list, youve pretty much done all the stage 1 mods You can complete the rest of the exhaust with a highflow cat then move to aftermarket ecu and get a tune. From here then it gets expensive with turbo injectors fuel pump brakes suspension and the list can go on from there, best to look in the search function for those. Other than that best to ask that question on tuners in the victorian section they may best help you out about that information

Cheers

Adam

yeh i think i will buy a new fuel pump next and then i will go for a aftermarket ecu.

yeh remapping the 33 ecu.

so maybe i should look for a power fc do you think? thats the best going around isnt it? if i can find one as they aint mking thm anymore.

at the moment i am just focusing on keeping the standard turbo for the time being and i am just doing 1 upgrade at a time. sometime in the future i may go towards the high flow turbo option.

so fuel pump and ecu sounds the go hey

fuel pump for the cheaper side of things + you will have to do that in the future if changing turbo etc

also a front mount would be good

i have what u got + a front mount, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump and a fuel cut defender and got over 200rwkw on the standard turbo with the fcd sorting out the r&r issues i had until i can get a full computer

yeh over 200 hey, thats all rite i would be happy with that.

yeh i have got a front mount intercooler. ok so a fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, what kind would be the best to go for? how much?

should i have a fuel cut defender if running 12 psi?

some people will say fuel pressure reg is not needed but i had already bought it so i put it on and allowed the workshop to bump up the fuel pressure a bit and play with the timing + the fuel cut defender for best results

i got a nismo fpr for i think just under 200 delivered from kudos ms, fuel pump i first had a gtr one but changed it to a walbro one which was much quiter. Again that was just under the 200 dollar mark delivered. If your planning on going over 250kw the walbro might start leaning out from what other people have experienced.

with the fcd i just used that because the car was running REALLY rich especially after trying to boost it past standard boost which meant power decreased so this fixed it. but obvioulsy a full computer like a power fc would be a better (but more expensive) option

yeh i think i am going to get a new fuel pump and then go for the power fc eventually because then if i have that then in the future if i decide to go more power i at least have the aftermarket ecu all ready

thanks for the help

i was just wondering ,

instead of me going out and buying a power fc could i use a safc or safc 2 for my setup as i aam only sticking with the standard turbo and the set up i have now and it is alot cheaper then getting a pfc.

so with my pod, full cat back exhaust with dump pipes,bc runs 12 psi, front mount would i be able to next just get a safc and a new fuel pump instead of the pfc??

and what about my afm? will it need an upgrade?

You have an identical setup to what i used to have. (about 2 months ago)

FMIC/Pod/3inch zorst/12psi.

On that setup it felt pretty damn good.

My next upgrade (and i recommend your next) was the ECU !

The best mod ever....

It sucks about the cost but it;s the natural next step.

Do it!

The SAFC is only 25% (if that) of an ECU anyway and will cost you $500 to buy and tune.

..and after that, you'll remove it and replace with a full ECU anyway.

How would i know? cause that's exactly what i did (and probably others)

So you might save $1000 now but you'll just end up spending it later anyway and when you do, you'll be going Woohoo! why didn't i do this before !

Do a couple more overtime shifts/ a paper run/ (the wall hahaha). just find the cash, buy the ECU, watch it get tuned, feal the smile on your face as you watch it come alive on the dyno and bigger grin yet when you drive home. :P

Above post refers to no change to AFM or fuel pump and getting 194rwkws from a Hitman tune in Penrith. (some see a tad more)

Fuel pump and AFM is one of my next mods but I've upgraded turbo too so don't worry about those yet until you do the same.

haha yeh ecu would be much better but yeh it is a pitty bout the extra cost, i was thinking about the safc cause i was just thinking of keeping this setup and not upgrading my turbo or anything. thats the reason i was thinking safc not ecu, did you ever tune the safc and the new ecu with the setup the same as mine?

if so what was the differance in the gains. i know what your saying tho, and yeh knowing me like alot of the other guys on here that i hear them say, the standard turbo and all if fine, but then after a few months they start searching for more power wanting more power, haha.

still stock afm and fuel pump to.

so you dont think i should need to change fuel pump for this tune??

oh yeh and also fuel cut defender? should i have one as i dont.

194 from this set up, i would be happy with something around that mark

Just to be clear (cause i often leave bits out)

My setup was the same as in same standard turbo too.

Your car is basically the same as mine minus the Power FC. and that made 194kws.

Have you drivin a car with that power? It's impressive stuff.

It doens't sound much as there are so many high powred cars on here but they all probably went thru the same as you and I.

I can't comment much on the SAFC but i was on 10psi with no FMIC.

The after tune ride home didn't feal that different.

It did feal better but it was more of a shrug the shoulders and yeah, it's better i guess type fealing.

Putting in the new POwer FC without it being tuned felt like an SAFCx10 !

and better again after the tune.

I can see in you responses there is the 'trying to save a buck' fealing in there and I'm the worst for it if (if you can find my response to GTR fuel pumps you'll see)

...but just dump the SAFC idea altogether man, you won't regret it

still stock afm and fuel pump to.

so you dont think i should need to change fuel pump for this tune??

oh yeh and also fuel cut defender? should i have one as i dont.

194 from this set up, i would be happy with something around that mark

for 194ish, no need for pump/AFM/turbo upgrade

No need for fuel cut defender if Power FC or equivelant is used (SAFC i don't know)

$$$ saved everywhere so go get that ECU already :P

drop the safc altogether then, it would be the smart thing to do. i see where you are coming from

guess i will just have to start saving my pennys up for a pfc then, haha,

yeh so no need for a change of the standard fuel pump you say? well that wil save me up some money for the pfc then,

is there any other little things that i will be needing ?

any idea on your gains before and after the pfc was fitted?

1 thing to get, power FC and tune

Personally, i'd stay on 12psi but you can go a tad higher if you want.

Some people go less to be even safer.

There's heaps of standard turbo results in this thread, happy reading...

k mate thanks heaps for your help hey,

really appreciate it. thanks

yeh i will have a look at the results now.

Hey Cliff,

I agree with Birnie.. Definately save up and get the pfc.. i had safc for a while as well.. it was ok for leaning out mixtures which are too rich for that little bit of power, but the pfc does a much better job and then you will defiantely think, why didn't i just get the pfc to start off with.

Most of the post in that link only show their peak power, which doesn't really show the potential of the pfc. Most of the time your peak power will stay the same or maybe get a bit more but the real performance gain in getting a pfc is in the drive. boost seems to come on quicker, the car revs more freely and smooth. the average power was heaps better than before the pfc was installed.

It will feel like a new car.

DEfinately worth getting the PFC. Also make sure you get a full tune and not just a power tune.

Good luck mate

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
