smurf80
Hey guys, This is my first post here in the NA section and I was wondering if you could help. I have had conflicting reports about which oil filter bolts up to the neo RB25 and was after help. Is it a Z145a like my previous car or is it a z442? I was told that after the 11th month 98 the 34 switches from 1 to the other but I need someone who owns one to tell me which one they use. My car is a 1999 r34 GTV if this helps. Howie
Z145A fits, but you ought to be running the smaller Z442 (or Nissan part# NI-15208-53J00). Best thing to do, is goto Nissan, quote your VIN number and they'll look up what filter you need in their FAST catalogue software. HackerX
What's the difference/reason for the Z442? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164023-r34-na-oil-filter/#findComment-3041088 Share on other sites
Howie
designed for finer filtration (different micron rating)... or so the guy at nissan told me. 666DAN
I always used the 145a....but recently someone bought a filter for me and got the smaller version, I can't see how something that tiny doesn't block quicker...in my opinion I like the ol' 145a as it's easier to grab when changing Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164023-r34-na-oil-filter/#findComment-3041408 Share on other sites
n15m0
designed for finer filtration (different micron rating)... or so the guy at nissan told me. I was told by my mechanic its because the NEO RBs run higher compression? Howie
Possibly.. but they ran Z145a prior to 11/98, then Z442 after - all on the same NEO motor. Maybe something else changes with the post 11/98 models... heard later models have GTR cams but I can't verify without opening mine up. I went and checked mine and it "feels" like a z145a but I cant be certain as its been awhile since ive done an oil change. Thanks for the replies guys. 342Four
i think the smaller filter prob has a diff filtration rating (ie diff micron size) if it helps, my boss runs 3 cars in the AMCA series over here in WA (like super sedans - Holden 253's on custom body's) and they run methanol, around 11:1 comp, wild cams and they use the smallest oil filter i have ever seen... NA_R33
The bigger the filter the less restriction through the filter obviously, on an NA its not so critical, but on all our race cars we try and get the biggest filter possible on them..., they are all essentially the same, there are a couple of different thread and oring sizes but essentially if it fits it will work... If you've got anything floating around internally that u need an oil filter to trap the type of filter your using is the least of your worries... your biggest concern is the cost of the rebuild...
