On the way back from Summernats I smoked 1 of those old 351 Ford GT's, he thought he was all smart pulling up beside me and giving it afew revs, i dropped it from 5th back to 4th (if i went to 3rd it would have been over much earlier) at about 100km/h and flattened it on 7psi (didnt bother switching it to 12psi) so back then 7psi for me was about 180rwkw or something, bye bye ford GT.

One of the few runs I've ever had with another car was with a 300kw Commodore.

Rolling start from about 40km/h in 2nd gear. All the way through 2nd gear and the start of 3rd we were dead even, but then the good old 3rd gear came into effect and I got about 1/4-1/2 a car length on him. We both stopped trying at 140km/h which is good cause that's the top of 3rd anyway ;)

I was suprised as was he.

I haven't seen him around since then - I still remember the lic plates cause it was HSV-0##.

At that stage I had full 3 inch exhuast, pod with CAI, 12psi...

Not bad for a car that cost me $26k against a car that was $90k+ :)

J

Had a rolling start from about 50km/h with a VU Manual ute.. Thought it may keep with me, i was mistaken, pulled a car length on him in a gear change, but getting to the 150-160km/h mark the V8 slowly comes back.

Car mods: Cat back exhaust, pod filter, bit more boost V's Gen III Exhaust, Cold Air, MAF meter, blah blah.....

Certainly changed his perspective of so called "Jap Cr*p" :)

hardly any TVR's over here dude... I always wanted a Griffith 500, but now theres all sorts of wicked sixes available!

btw for those that dont know, a TVR is a british sports car about the size of an MX5 mazda, but with big V8 or highly worked six under the hood, all doing 0-100 in around 4 seconds off the showroom floor.

At the track against a monaro gto, fairly even but he was pulling very slowly away on the straight at eastern creek. Out braked him into the corner though. Should match or do better now that a/f ratio is fixed.

On the twisties however, left him for dead. But something tells me it was more of a driver factor, rather than machine there.

I guess it all depends what you are up against, i dont see a v8 Holden beating a Skyline, for some reason holden can't get the set-up right on there v8.

ALso by the way "monaro gto" are 2 different things a monaro is a $50,000 LS1 350chevy and a GTO is a $115,000 Ls1 350Chevy with 300kw.

Anyone which wants to see how they do against me i will have my car in a few weeks really would like to see how to goes up against a skyline (live in Perth) Car: 88 vette

Yepp, that's true. The only reason I knew the commodore I ran was a 300kw one is that they have a little badge on the back that says 300 :)

I must say that they sound amazing though....

Jay95R33 i agree a corvette is a LS1 and only pulls 300hp and chevy knows what they r doing with they engines. and i gto would not be able to keep up with a vette no way in the world. holden should have took a chpt. out of chevy book and put a Ls6 with 405hp 0->100 in 4.8second that is a really powerhouse machine.

I must amit i will enjoy beating holden more than skyline in my vette, cuz they all think they r hot shit with 300kw which is really FAKE!

rev210 u dont see many of them on perth streets, they are all shitty SS or HSV which couldnt pull a low 13 to save there own life. dont get my wrong i like holdens and v8 but most of them are shit house. i would rather race a skyline than a hsv, i think it would be more a closer race (untill my car is finish)

    • Ha ha, yeah, I've had one following me around in my parts boxes since about 2007 I believe. Just a little iddy bit hole drilled in the one I have to let it vent out once pressure was removed from the engine side. Still no idea what I'd put it on, ha ha.
    • Just read this... Just a little bit of a wild one! Do you think the driver was testing out a new feature/device for how to lose the cops in a high speed chase?   I also suspect, if the box has a road sweeper that does magnetic metal pick up, he does a LOT of work in the machining industry. Which is what most of that looked like, machining chips from a mill or lathe. And I bet they're RAZOR sharp! And from an environmental perspective they really do need to actually collect all of those little pieces too. I wonder how many people still cop flat tires over the coming months on that road?   As for insurance company, yeah, it'd be interesting to hear what they say to the owner. But realistically, he's right, that "It's his fault". In the way that, it was his truck that spilled it, so they need to clean it up. However, neither he, nor his insurance company may bear the end cost if they do an investigation and find out it was caused by someone elses negligence (And they know who)...
    • Yeah, no matter what bad things people can say about Julian from Autospeed, he at least was capable of thinking and his inclusion of a check/relief valve in the plumbing for the Audi boost controller, that I made a copy of and used for years**, completely eradicated that problem. **It's still lying on my workbench where I put it about, um, 18 years ago and have never found a home for it!
    • I didn't actually know this! I've seen photos of the H1, mainly outside shots, and they just look "different". I guess there'd be a few little changes like nicer rims, and probably the fact they have nicer looking paint with some depth and shine, which will make any vehicles body look different to the very flat colours of the defence force.   I've watched the guys on GHPC convert their Humvee to LS1, and they've done some really nice front shock upgrade. I'm waiting for the next video on it with the rear end done. I can't remember if they've already done it, or I dreamed it, but I believe they're also supercharging theres. They will be in the future doing proper long travel suspension too.   If you ditch out your big V8, as rubbish as it must be, send it to my place. I'll let the unreliable V8 motor and box be here. I just like V8s... So I'll find something to do with it... Even if that something is just taking up valuable space in the yard. I might have something Skyline I can send back in payment... Or even Ford Barra motors  (From memory you're in Canada yeah?) So you can then play with the legendary Aussie 4L version of an RB...  Except they don't have that distinctive random miss at idle like the RB25 does.
    • Or you mean the age old problem of early 2000's manual boost tees, where they never let the pressure out of the line between the boost tee, and the waste gate, so after your first trip on boost, the damn wastegate liked to stay open and be laggy on gear change?
