Putting out just under 200kw @ Wheels

and also looking to have the clutch whitstand upto 400kw

he reccomends the Full monty, now im asking how would the Exedy hyper single plate compare to this set up ????

Im gonna go with standard flywheel from my car in the full monty just re conditioned by jim in getting the right weight.

Who has a full monty in their car ????

How does it feel ???

Hows it ride/sound/feel/rough/race car sounds :D hehe

I have the exedy...

I have met Jim berry and takled to him for a couple of hours about clutches. I would only ever buy one of his clutches from now on.

the exedy is OK. it does hold and not slip with 240rwkw but it shudders in reverse going up hill and the friction point is small making it hard to launch,

Go the Jim Berry. you will not regret it.

hhmmm sounds good

he did sound very in the know wen i spoke to him....

Just wondering if i should get a new flywheel from him aswell,

might go the full monty with a chrome moly flywheel from Jim aswell

thanks heaps guys

yeah get the billet flywheel from him aswell

he has some on the shelf there, but some arent the best of design but do the job (as he's said himself) the only negative about them is there are holes in the middle of the flywheel where it's been lightened, ideally it should be lightened from the outside. so ask him if he can get a different design of flywheel.

Got one of Jim's Full Monty's on my GTR.

Just got it going over the weekend - initial impression - nasty!!!

Very short take up, clamps like a vice - just as promised.

I would suggest it will take a little getting used to on the street as it is very on or off (no in between) so gentle takeoffs up hill etc could be fun. Once rolling or on the track...beautiful.

I have stayed with a std weight flywheel which will help on the road. An excessively light one would be even more of a handfull getting off the mark without making it sound like the start of a grand prix.

Go for it.

I work in the same street as jim berry and my boss speaks highly of him, he has made all of our clutches for our rally cars and we will never go elsewhere.

if u want to know anything about clutches he's ur man, he knows what hes talking about.

High prices? Don't think so champ. And before you go off, yes Direct Clutch make some very good clutches as well. I'm just suggesting you get some facts into your argument first. I paid $950 for my JB single after torching 3 different Exedy HD's inside 3 months. Add some more power and a heap more torque, 250+ runs down the quarter at full snot, lots of street driving, Powercruise thrashing and general abuse and it's still going strong.

Obviously with his high prices he can sit on the phone to you guys all day pissing in your pockets making u feel like his mate and still make a good dollar.

Jim berry is not the only place that can put together a decent clutch, theres just not that much to it.

I spoke to the guy for over 2 hours him knowing very well that i had just bought a new clutch. he is not just in it for the money. he builds clutches for rally and v8 supercars... some with carbon fibre plates. he knows what he is doing and for what you get it is the best value i have found.

What are peoples experiences with the exedy heavy duty clutches? im thinking of going for the exedy heavy duty in my r33 gts25t which will hopefully be making 250rwkw soon, so i need to know if it will handle this amount of power and are they easy to drive with?

Thanks

does it have the brass button's? if so i've had 3 and they were a mega pain to drive, it was either on or off, and if u tried to ride the clutch it would shudder violently and end up rooting the clutch. also with the one in my gtr, the pedal was waaaaaaay too light

Im really not sure as i havent seen it, i think its just a standard clutch plate (it says on that link cerametalic) with a higher pressure pressure plate (from what i have been told), it is a sprung center, (sorry i dont know that much about clutches)

ahh k. well then going by that it has ceramic buttons (it could be a full face clutch also, it doesnt state) and they are easier to drive with.

will it last with 250kw? i'm not sure

Yup it is full faced i think, i dont think it is a "puk clutch"

Hey 2rismo the guys a negative tosser who bitches and whinges like a shiela about anything that takes his fancy...theres an old saying i like and it goes a little something like this...

"if you want to find out how bad something is, ask someone who doesn't have one, would like one, but can't afford it."

Yes other people make good clutches too...I now use an NPC twin plate. A good clutch for our race car....but in a street car a Jim Berry clutch is 1/2 the price and much more suited to that application.

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
