To be honest guys, the problem started happening to me after a fmic install.. without winding in any more boost.. So maybe it is rich and retard.

Before the fmic i had shity plug with what looked to be a gap of 1.5 mm they looked like worn iridiums or platmins. But funtioned fine until the fmic. Now i run .8mm 6 heat range coppers......

If i turn down the boost a fraction the problem goes away.

I might explore other avenues before going split fires.

Thanks for all the input.

mmmmmmmm.......up until 3 days ago my car was generating 110 rear wheel Kw with under 7psi (indicated)..

It would 'boost cut', pop and complain at anything above 8 psi!!!.....I've been driving that way for months!!

I changed plugs, coil packs (2nd hand), AFM, reset puter,....no difference, according to Dyno.

Today my car generated 170 rwKw @ 11psi!!......Dyno

Because i didn't take the time to find a stupid f**king little leak on the IC rubber 'out pipe elbow'.....open >2 or 3 mm across, was enough to make my car useless on the freeway or for overtaking!!!

Point.....pull apart you IC piping and scrutinise it!!!!...it's cheaper!!!......and sounds so much like the issue here, in my experience.

Although, it would be nice to have the splitfires!!!

Regards,

Superspit.

My Splitfire coils arrived today from NENGUN took them 4 days to get here and only cost me NZ$550 so im pretty happy. i will be installing today so will let you all know if it fixes the prob fingers crossed

honestly....good luck man....nice coils.

But, if you do actually find that this doesn't solve the issue, please do inspect ALL of you IC piping...

Let us know how you go!

I checked all poping on the weekend and replaced every hose clamp with new ones and checked every silicon hose for cracks.

also put new cable ties on every boost and vacuum line.

i also tries all the below as well with no luck

New Plugs at .8mm

New Fuel filter

Cleaned AFM

Cleand Coils (the spring inside) with AFM cleaner

checked for hair line cracks (found nothing)

Taped Coils (waste of time)

Spraid with heat rated silicone (waste of time)

Re-set ECU

so yea i have tried all other cheap options so yea i hope these do fix the prob.

My cars in the shop getting the rest of my body kit fitted so i cant fit the coils for another few hours haha im amping at the bit to put them in.

Anything above around 8PSi on my 33 creates the bogging/rich and retard feeling at different points in the rev range (holding the throttle off a little bit it feels like it goes much harder, and doesn't bog)

I think I have a minor leak somewhere, mainly near the manifold.

Car comes off the road soon for some work, and this will be one of the things I adress. (Along with new ECU)

oh man!....that is exactly what my car was doing....up until last week!......it was only making 110kw!!!

Now making 185 at 11.5 psi.....thank god we found that shitty little leak!!....it only opened when I really pushed it....first gear seemed fine....3,4,5th gears were pussy!!

Geeees....those splitfires do look pretty!......might get me some of them!.

I'm already running splitfires

And 1st gear "normally" seems fine for me, except one day I punched it and it must have hit a boost cut/fuel cut and I nearly smacked my head on the steering wheel except for the seat belt lock, then it came back to life took off up the road, then 2nd gear played it's usual tantrum

Might have a good search of the IC piping soon.

Could you hear your leak?

Hi MBS...

nupp....over the natural induction noise it was impossible.

The guy at the dyno even said it took some time to find it!!! It was on the output side of the stock intercooler. (elbow connector pipe).

We both new that it was going to be something silly like that....I did plugs, AFM, checked timing, compression, ECU status...etc...nothing helped.

Until the elbow was replaced...then ........bammmmm! Skyline was back!

Take nothing for granted when looking for pressure loss/leaks, 'cause if you do chances are you'll overlook the problem and spend stupid amounts of cash, as I did!!!!

PS...where is that GREY connector on your TPS going to.......I've never actually seen TPS with a connection to the normally bare grey plug...brown yes.

told you!

Just to let other people know,

I had a similar problem that did turn out to be a minor boost leak, so check your cooler piping if your having a similar problem!

I agree check all other possible probs before splashing out on new coils.

I had checked evey option then my last resort was the coils.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
