Deny a cops request to inspect under your bonnet and prepare to have your ass reamed. You might just get off, but remember that if you piss the cop off and your car/rego becomes known - you will have a nightmare on your hands once every cop in the LAC starts keeping an eye out for you.

LAW

Cops must have a search warrant to search anyone's property. Whether you look like a drug son of rajab or not, they still have to have a search warrant. NOTHING CHANGES THAT. Cops, unbelievabely, can not do anything they want to.

Ill vouch for being 99% sure they can search the cabin based on the 'reasonable suspicion', i'd assume this carries to the engine bay but alas.

Theres a website "acj****" (cant remember off hand) or similar that outlines alot the facts, though from memory it might only be for ADRs and shit, not actual police powers.

Maybe a better stance is to let the cop do the work as such. When they ask to pop the bonnet, let it be known that you are not willing to do it, and nor do you consent to any form of search, though if you belive you can, the door is open. Make it clear that will chase the matter.

but they will try to tell u anything unless to tell them they r full of shit!

When i got canaried 1 cop asked me where my child safety seat anchor points were, i asked him if it looked like i was carrying a child safety seat in the back, and that the rear is only a 2 seater so u cant carry a child safety seat anyway He then tried to tell me that the car has to have a child safety anchor points, then i told him he better ring up nissan japan and ask them to recall all the slylines they have sold over the last 20 years coz he said they have to have em, and walked away. He tried to say something smart but the other cop called him over and said something 2 him. This was after the other cop had already started writing defects down so i did care if he wrote down more coz i knew i could clear it without changing anything, and i did.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

www.carpoint.com.au - has a new page about knowing your rights, which i think you all should read into

I've searched hi and lo, but I can't find it. Where is it?

well, what a response. i get two answers in one thread.

With my car, the only things outside of it that can be defected, would be exhaust (cause they always say its to big), and its to low (cause the front is on its guts now with the heavier motor).

I'd rather cop a canary for that than get the car ridden off for having no motor in it.

i too know of a place to get rwc, but now i think its got to go to vic roads. so i f i get defected, could mean engineers.

But pleading the (do you have a warrant to search), will mean that they will pick the shit out of your car.

The way i see it, a majority of defects are given out during the times when the so called "drags are on", anyone else who gets defected during working hours, can consider themselves unlucky.

as for the catch can, i think i might just get a custom made one, dont really want to pay for the name brand.

any how,

one thing i know of someone who had a convesion done, put a latch on his bonnet. So you have to press down on the bonnet, whilst flicking the bonnnet leaver.

this way he just plead the bonnet was stuck.

playing dumb is the best way i reckon, copper feels sorry for you. But if you act as if u know something thats when they start to do u up the a**.

laters

deffinetly a strong subject with way too much stuff up in the air. Now that my mum works in the police force (only an instructor not actually a 'cop') i'll make sure next time she is at work she gets some reading material on the 'rights'.

Catch can - do it, you really dont need the oil vapour coating the inside of your cooler and turbo do you ? As long as it doesnt vent to atmosphere, it is lega, as venting to atmo is an emissions violation. This is what I got told by a cop.

Your car can be bog stock and just off the production line and it can get stickered. It is up to the copper's judgement, if he thinks it is not legal he can sticker it. this can be just about anything - I think you would be asking for trouble if you refused to pop your bonnet. Just be polite, dont gob on. If you decide you want to be smart, you can guarantee the minimum you will get is a sticker - perhaps worse.

cool,

well my piping is getting made up as of next week, in alloy, and the car hasn't been started for a year. so might aswell get it from the start.

might just get the guys to design a catch can too. they are doing all the other custom metal fabs.

big plug for trik fab by the way.

    • That sounds like an excellent idea. But total self-sufficiency means exactly that. You have no-one else to blame when your system faults out and you have no power for a week or two while it gets fixed. You'd have to go the whole hog and get a diesel genny and all the switchover gear, to get you through such times. And, despite the fact that over 20 years, my system has been pretty reliable**, I have seen so many inverter explosions (or less dramatic deaths), panel and roof JB fires, and so on, over that time, to know that the stuff is the same as any other bulk Chinese manufactured stuff. The failure rate is well above zero - both on the equipment and on behalf of the meth addled installation labour force. And then..... warranty and means of redress against the supplier you bought the gear from. Best I can tell is that only a handful of solar companies are still around within 5 years of starting their advertising pitch. They disappear and phoenix like crazy. So, as per 1st paragraph, I suspect the only way to is go balls deep and spend maybe 2-3 times as much as you might think, so that you have every base covered. Plus, know and understand your gear intimately, so you can diagnose problems, sort them out yourself, etc, etc. Plus, probably have to consider upgrading various parts as the years pass, to maintain compatibility with newer stuff, performance and reliability, etc, etc. Whereas, remaining attached to the grid has an ongoing cost that keeps going up even if you use bugger all power from it. But it does provide the fallback in case of the worst case with your own gear. You either pay up front or as you go, I suspect.
    • Add more solar panels to the array. Call the electricity company and tell them you're moving out... Live off grid electric wise
    • Hi Jasmine. How's the war going?
    • I'm extremely suspicious of the VPP stuff. Best I can tell, you surrender any and all control of your panels and battery to the VPP, because there's no way that anyone could write a sufficiently useful set of "rules" as to how much you would be willing to let out of your export meter at any given time. If one of your main interests is to have enough in your battery every evening to get you through the night without having to import, you could easily find yourself with nothing in your battery at the end of the day, or part way through the night, and then be paying import pricing instead of paying nothing. I cannot see how this cannot come to pass.
    • majority aftermarket is an10 yes, but majority of OEM is An12 r35 OEM cooler lines at close to an 12, the hard line that car uses is almost 20mm  Porsche OEM is also AN12   i figure, if our power levels are close to 1000hp, then AN12 should be a must if many OEM standard power vehicles use AN12
