hey guys, ive recently purchased a brand new plumback bov that i was told could hold high boost pressure.

When i installed the thing and took it for a drive it seems to make like a kettle noise while air flow is rising.

For example at 3,000-6,000 it sounds like a kettle just finished boiling its water. Its so embarressing, i have to change at lower revs to avoid it. I dont seem to be loosing boost pressure over it either, just an embarressing noise.

So i thought id ask anyone here that has experienced this problem before that could help me out, or if anyone here knows the solution to this problem.

har har har KETTLE POWAH!!!

you have a leak in the turbo manifold :) or somewhere along the line... its a very small leak and only a certain amount of air can get through, not nearly enough to warrant problems with boost pressure, but just enough to make a whistle :laugh:

have fun finding it :wub:

3 gaskets to check.

the one between the manifold and the block.

the one between the manifold and the turbo.

the one between the turbo and dump pipe.

My $2.50 is on the gasket between manifold and turbo..

AND, that you have at least 1 bolt missing.

edit.. obviously this means that there is nothing wrong with your high power bov.

yea well it makes more sense now, its just it started happening right before i changed from atmo to plumback, must have been a coincidence. Appreciate your help mate.

i ended up putting the apexi bov back on and it doesnt seem to do the noise anymore. So it must be the plumback system thats got the whistle happening, or the bov itself. Could it be that the spring is to weak? This is really wiered. And it goes much harder on the 11psi with the apexi bov. Could that be because i tuned it with it on?

What BOV was the plumback? What intake pipe do you have, metal?

If the BOV can be unscrewed (ie. turbosmart) you can put a spacer between the spring and the top of the BOV this will increase the springs tension. This should eliminate the 'kettle noise', as it sounds like the BOV is on the point of nearly being open as the boost increases. Or the valve could be a really poor seal on the inside allowing air to squeal past.

Its a drift bov, similar to turbosmart, the bov can be unscrewed. ill have to try the spacer out. Yea by the sound of it, it does sound like its being opened slightly. I had a look at the valve, seems to be pretty air tight. definately worth trying out the spacer, ill give it ago in the morning, thanks mate.
