Hey guys

browsed thru the section where everyone offers what they can help SAU members out with. Question is for you all

Who can you recommend / send me to so i can get a new box built for my old man

Current specs:

AMD Athlon XP2500+

1.84 GHz

512Mb RAM

120Gb hard drive.

Peripherals are all modern, and basically we just need a new box

Needs Firewire card (or can supply one from current computer)

Roughly 6x USB ports (yes we have a few things to plug in hehe)

Network card

DVD Player / Burner (already hav a DVD RW, but wouldnt mind a second one just in case)

At least 1GB RAM, if not more

500GB or so for a HDD, not really fussed if its more, but at least that much

And the biggie - is there any way that we can get it with a copy of Windows XP Professional...............i mean i could supply a copy and just ring up to re-activate it (been there done that before) but wanted to see if there was still a chance of a copy of XP Pro still to be laying around

The Jellybean keyfinder prevents legs being blown off. :)

-------------

Video encoding? Big HD, Firewire?

Something along the lines of the below will do well..

$258 - CPU: Core 2 Duo E6420 (No point going slower unless you wish to overclock)

$169 - M/Board: Gigabyte 965P-DS3P (MSY have no DS3's in stock and are not sure when they will have stock)

$097 - RAM: 2gb (2x1gb) Kingston DDR2 667 (No need for 800mhz for general windows stuff, definitely not worth the extra unless you wish to overclock or game)

$195 - HD: Seagate 500gb (I've found Seagate to be more reliable than WD, never had one go belly up; had multiple WD's go belly up, all though I still have an old 20gb BB WD drive chuging along. )

$081 - VIDEO: ECS 7300GT (or spend another $100 for the 7900GS if you want to play the odd game)

$055 - DVD DRIVE: Anything.. I prefer LG but MSY don't have then.

$145 - CASE: Antec NSK6500

An even $1000.

That meets your >1gb of ram, 6usb, firewire & network requirements. :)

yeah, i could get you a box, that pritty much what i do for a living

XP Pro is no worries, got til Jan 2009 before you cant buy that any more (from us anyhows)

drop over one night, ask for luke (now if your still awake, i have some beers)... or drop by my work (link in sig)

i dont like MSY because a) they are cometition =P and b) they greay market.. but as if a bunch of skyline owners care about grey market computer bits =D

for price shopping, visit http://www.staticice.com.au/

and as mentioned above, MSY is now in Adel

http://msy.com.au/ dodgy website but their price is best

I can put the box together for FREE, if u cant find anyone to do it

    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • Those above shitboxes, mediocre and above usually have a turbo strapped to them, hence the slightly higher octane is required.
    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
