ive read that you can get randomly stopped to see if your an illegal imigrant....lol gotta be asian lookin of course and a pretty dodgy lookin one at that i guess..ha. anyone been stopped? also a warning not to eat from portable street vendors.

hows the power supply? will a simple adaptor work for my digital camera or will i need a proper one? i read its 220V there.

Yeah, its 220V. A plug adapter will suffice.

As for eating from portable street vendors, I remember one time I was out on the piss with my boss and I was staggering to the MTR to get the last train home. I walked past this portable vendor cooking...I don't know what. All I remember was him leaning over the wok, working away, and his sweat was dripping into it.

Yeah. KFC, McDonalds, plus there are things we don't get in Aus like Hardee's and Spaghetti House.

You can get Chinglish food from Maxim's, and near the "Downtown" area (can't really call any place the CBD since practically everywhere is business) you'll find plenty of cafe-style restaurants.

Steak's an issue, since cows are hard to come by (there's not exactly much land). Most locals prefer brisket anyway, so that's what the market caters for. I've heard that my favourite hamburger joint, Three Little Piggies, has closed down though. Those guys made a mean burger.

But why you'd want to go to a country and not sample their local fare is beyond me. If you want to go experience new things, try and experience them. Stay away from those portable street stalls by all means, but part of going to Hong Kong is trying out all those restaurants.

I love hong kong...... my old man flies for cathay pacific so we were based there for 10-15 yrs cant remmeber exactly.

what area are you staying? My old man may be keen on giving you a tour of all the good car places.... he is mates with a few.... heaps of ex-pats spend a lot of coin at these places.

oh yeah and if you like to party the place is unequalled...... hang out where all the air hosties hang and you will have a ball... or two...or three... british airways ladies love to partay

Its not china, its hong kong.

HK is awesome. Mong Kok is a good place for markets and car parts but its mostly rice... Performance shops are all over HK but mainly they are in kowloon. Kowloon is near mong kok only about a $7 cab ride($Aus) D2 suspension is on south wall road always good cars there. Saw lots of skylines and silvias. More car shops around there you just have to walk around.

For electronics, AVOID nathan rd in tsim sha tsui shops with flashy sony,canon etc... signs, these places are mainly selling seconds or repaired stuff. Pay the extra and go to either mong kok or sham shui po and remember to BARGAIN! even if the price doesn't change get accessories thrown in.

bargaining is the best part mate!

just ask what their price is, oggle at what u want for a bit....offer them 50-60% of what they quoted you. If they say no, which they most likely will, just start walking away slowly. They'll call u back when your about 2 metres away and agree with your price or offer you close to it. Just hagglle your way down to the price u want and thats it!

It really depends whether you're asian or white.

Oh yes, don't bother trying Pizza Hut pizzas there unless you're fairly keen because the prices are astronomical. Some pizzas were AU$30+. That said though, I had the best spaghetti bolognese in my life from Pizza Hut there.

man , i wasnt expecitng such a huge reply, thanks again everyone. Im leaivng on the 01/07 and looks like ill be heading down to Mong Kok and then Pizza hut for some spaghetti then at nights drinking with my old man should be great, havnt taken time off work for over a year now...

My barganing power isnt that good but i will try my hardest , if anything i can just walk away and try the same person again a day later.. didnt get much of a response on the pirces . Should i expect to pay about the same here , a little cheaper or a substantial difference ??
