Tow truck companies know it, driving instructors are certain of it and insurance firms have no doubt about it — Sydney drivers are the worst when it comes to coping with wet weather.

As soon as the rain fell yesterday, many of the city's motorists failed to slow down and take the road conditions into consideration.

More than 100 minor crashes and breakdowns were recorded across Sydney throughout the day as up to 50mm of rain fell on the city. Many more accidents went unreported.

RTA spokesman Alec Brown said there is always a spate of crashes in the first stages of a wet weather cycle because many city drivers suffer the psychological term “Optimism Bias”.

“A large number of drivers have a viewpoint that even though it's wet they can handle the speed they usually travel,” he said.

“They think they know the roads and can handle the conditions.

Today, in a 90 zone - mona vale road was in the mrs car doing not even 80 cause it was really freakin hard to see, and I had tools flying past me and tail gating me, even though im in the left lane

I think kellogs had a prmotion thingy and shitloads of sydnye siders got their licence from 1 in 3 packs

I find it weird how many drivers dont use their headlights in wet weather, he headlights have 2 purposes, to see and be seen yet many drivers forget this. During my usual 250km of travels today I was doing some random counting in the Blue Mtns this morning and it was about 40% of cars without any lights on at all which is a very high number.

You wouldn't believe how many f**king retards there are out there that are actively opposed to daytime running lights.

Read that site - its amazing how stupid people are. Anyone who's ever driven on a highway knows how much easier it is to spot other traffic if they've got their lights on, guesstimate how far away they are, and easy determine what direction they're travelling in. All very important data if you're making a wrong-side overtaking move.

That's before you get into dawn/dusk situations where its hard to make out cars with all those shadows.

They crap on about how it blinds / dazzles other drivers. What the hell? You could high beam someone during the day, and because the headlight / ambient light differential isn't that great they're hardly going to get dazzled. Normal headlights don't do squat to other drivers' vision.

I'm all for DRL. I think they should be mandatory everywhere.

I have often been amazed at the high number of cars not using their headlights in inclement weather. I travel 200kms per day to get to work and have also noticed the lack of hazard lights in fog, particularly on the F6. Furthermore, I was (not) suprised by a P-plater overtaking me doing at least 130 whilst I was sitting on 85-90 during heavy rain and wind on the F6 today. Tailgating in dry conditionsis not acceptable driving behaviour, yet I saw it done often today.

Sydney drivers lose their common sense when it rains.

Also a lot of people suffer from the good old "liquid horsepower" when it rains and cars that cant normally wheelspin are getting sideways every chance they get.

I know! Had an idiot in a ute going up and down the street to test how much he would slide.

Dude looked like a complete retard.

Let me inform all Sydney drivers that LAS VEGAS, NEVADA are the worlds worst drivers in Rain.

Just take it trip to Vegas between Dec and Feb of any year and just watch people drive and slide.

You would think 5" inches of snow had falled.......LOL

Vegas is the worst.

I lived and worked in Malaysia for a while and had the pleasure of driving there and I can tell you that they have got to be the worst, bar none ! To survive I partially had to adopt thier dirving style which was basically is who dares wins combined with keeping the accelerator flat to the foor all the time !

i love it.

*prays to rain gods for more rain*

nothing beats mud tho. Dirt roads + rain = hours of fun

    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
