Hi Everyone,

My name is Anthony, I have agreed to purchase an R32 GTR. I'm picking up the car next Tuesday. I'm very excited about it, and at the same time slightly worried, since I've never driven a car with such power. Previously I owned an MR2 Spyder, which was great fun to drive, had some issues and wasn't to my liking - and a 2 seater isn't much useful when you have kids. The MR2 is now sold.

I am still a committee member of ACT MR2 club and the webmaster of Australian MR2 club. I have probably met some of you in the events like Marques in the Park, or Tsunami Charity Cruise few years back. In my spare time, I make vinyl decals. Let me know if anyone wants decals made, I do a good deal for most people.

I'm looking forward to driving the R32 (or learning to drive it first) and probably see you in the cruises.

Anthony

welcome! you've made the right choice in choosing to live the skyline/GTR life. im sure you'll be very impressed with your car and love it to bits. unless you blow a turbo on the way home, then you wont be so impressed.....

im glad you said that you want to learn to drive it, because in another thread, another new owner got caught out and trashed his new tricked out R33. not good....

anyway, all the best with it and im sure we'll all meet you soon.... :O

Well not much of a family car, but it can work.

I'd suggest get use to driving it around town, then get the car check out properly and take it to a race track to learn how to use it.

Just make sure it's had the required upgrades before you do!

Thanks guys. I just had a look at my car-to-be this morning. It's just been detailed and cleaned. Getting new shocks and few bits & pieces. I pick up the car on Tuesday.

I don't have a photo of it, but it looks like a stock gunmetal R32, but with aftermarket front mount intercooler, with tinted windows. I will be adding somestripes on the side or possibly a GT stripes.

I would love to take it to Wakefield. I used to go there regularly with the MR2 - I always got overtaken by Skylines & WRXs in the straight.

Also, I was wondering if anyone could help me...

I'm looking for an insurer for the car. What do you guys recommend?

This is also the first time I'm registering a car in NSW. What happens with compulsory third party insurance? I heard that it's different to ACT where CTP is included in the rego fee.

Im in a gunmetal r32 as well so im sure i will notice u when u start driving around

Be careful when u go to the track the first time the gtr`s have a bad habit of pulling the oil out of the sump and leaving it in the head abit of extra oil will help with that

Hi Anthony, welcome to the world of the Skyrine. I have my insurance with Shannons. Send _8OO5TED_ a pm, he's in WA, works for Shannons. I'm sure he'll give you a good quote. You can find him on this link: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...hp?showuser=979

I've been with Justcars for 3 years, Swann for 3 years and NRMA for a several years. I can't really tell who is the cheapest since the prices seem inconsistent depending on cars & my age.

I remember young & cool you had to have a certain standard alarm installed, which Toyota factory alarm didn't comply. Will they still insure me if I am old & uncool :bunny: ?!? I'm not that old.

I think I will contact 8oosted, for Shannons. Thanks for the tip.

So, NSW CTP - do i apply it before registration or after?

Hey mate, welcome. Yeh I was with young and cool for a while, they were really good. I did have to have a 3 stage imobiliser installed, but I was gonna anyways. I was 18 and bought a N15 SSS, from memory, about $1500 a year full comp. also was with AAMI when the Pulsar was stolen at the start of the year, they are really helpfull and have my thumbs up for service and prices.

Hope this helps.

Welcome brah!!

If your used to a hard sprung, knife edged MR2, and have found the BNR32 to be more evening balanced, be careful. Specially if you think it'll handle like a full time 4WD WRX or what have you. Find some quiet wet roads / track and start gently provoking over steer. The way that the BNR32's SW and transfer case applys tourqe to the front wheels can take a while to learn.

ENJOY!!!!!!

That is a stock intercooler, right?

I haven't picked it up yet. Few issues needs to be resolved with RTA. They want id checked, even if I have all the paperwork, and it's purchased from a dealer. My dealer will deal with it today.

For your info - green slip must be obtained before applying registration for NSW. You can get it from AAMI counter (Fyshwick, near food market), costs just under $300.

Young & cool will not insure cars older than 15 years old.

Dawes is another insurer who will insure imports. (ph, 1800 807 463). Their quote was cheaper than Just Cars.

Vigil is another insurer (ph 1300 134 054), but for GTR, you must be 30 years old or over.

    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
