Yep, the same shit has happened to me too. There's nothing you can do except wait, which is phucking annoying. To give you an idea on where my plates are, we applied for the plate on the 7th of January......yep January.

The plates were only authorised by Canberra on the 9th of May, or 5 months after! The approval to print the plate was only given on the 13th of May, and thats all I heard since

The company which prints the plate, will not release any further information unless you are the CPA owner, what ever the phuc that means, so basically I've been waiting since.

The shop who did the compliance work, my importer cant do anything because nobody is releasing any information. To make matters worse my car is in QLD, while Im here in Melb. And the car cant be moved until the plate is on the car! :T Not happy at all.

I've also heard rumours that if you try to push canberra, they'll invariably put your request at the bottom of the list.

This has been an incredibly sore point for me a I've been waiting for ***ing ages with nobody giving me any answers. My importer has gone missing, I'm dealing with the compliance directly, and I dont really want to be pissing him off...........

*takes a deep breath* enough said.

crazO you are considered lucky man... at least you got your plate already

Aybee, my broker also said "it will be here this week for sure" since last month... wondering are we using the same broker? hehehe

At least now i know the complaince plate dalay is cause by Dotar instead of our broker messing around with us since so many of us are experiencing the same problem. But i dont think my broker should keep geving me emthy promises such as "will receive plate next week". Its like destroying my hopes every week hoping the plate will arrive. He should have tell me the truth which is he doesnt know the truth.

"Empty promises." Thats exactly the point. If I had known that it would have taken so long, then I wouldnt have sold my car and be relying on phucken public transport!

If they were honest, I would have made my decisions differently. I hope all the brokers out there are reading this so that no other poor bastard has to go through what I'm doing. I'm sick of them pawning me off and saying yeah soon, soon, yeah bullshyte soon.

But, yes given the rules of this forum, I will not say who my broker is. CrazO, you are one lucky man. Well done. Aybee, hopefully when we get our cars, we can go for one of the cruises here. Phuck I'm pi%$&ed off!

I agree with Scotty about the importers - cos I am also waiting like him.

I have just read all the replies here on the thread. Waiting for your car to get here from Japan is long enough, and to be told over and over again that it will be 'here soon' doesn't cut it.

I think honestly and coming clean on all phases of the import process - even if it sometimes is bad news, it would make a lot of us a little less P**Sed off.

... looks like all of us know enough about the frustrations and the process of importing to start up our own businesses haha. at least we know what really annoys us about the process :D

Good luck everyone with their cars!!!!

It is really frustrationg looking at it from an importers point of view also, we get told by the DOTARS that ALL plates will be issued before midnight on May 7th only to have them not turn up .. we get kept in the dark for weeks on end while they work out what they are going to do about it, which is really hard for us when we have to give answers to a number of clients that are waiting for plates - this even includes my new Skyline

I have been on the phone to people in Canberra as well as talking with almost a dozen compliance workshop owners just to compare their stories in an effort to find the absolute truth ..

At this stage it is just a case of waiting - the DOTARS are apparently working through the backlog as quickly as possible (for them anyway) and we have finally started getting some of the 20 odd plates we are waiting on, so hopefully the others won't be far away now...

bad news scotty, anybody who says they have been waiting since january is lying.

the whole waiting for plates issue only concerns vehicles in the months of march/april,this is when the delays occured, unfortuantely dotars have screwed us again.theres probably a few of my customers on this thread,if it is ,im sorry if were giving u the run around, but thats what were getting.

i have been told about 4 times, that i should have this week from the plate printers, but were still waiting, from 28th april i have been waiting for 42 plates,i received 5 last week,12 today and expecting another 8 next week, all of which were ordered 2 days apart.

Craig, Dean and Chris,

Thank you all for your kind words. While I understand that this is not your fault, I guess my point is, please be HONEST with your customers. If the government states that it will be delayed, then so be it. Its not your fault so don't be afraid to tell us.

It just that with my broker, I always feel that I am being pawned off and that they're not really interested in helping me, but rather just trying to get me off the phone.

I have not dealt with yourselves personally, so I can NOT speak from experience. But please do keep this in mind when you are speaking with your customers.

In regards to my plate, I have absolutely no confidence in what anybody tells me anymore. Its sad, but I can no longer trust anybody, as I have been let down far too often.

Regardless, thank you both for taking the initiative in replying to this. It hopefully can give some solice to your customers that at least some brokers are trying.

Please note: My comments are all from personal experience, I cannot account for everybody on this forum. Please do not take offence. I have deliberately have not mentioned any names or companies here. Thanks.

/meggala smiles at dean

I'm also waiting from a plate from dean nothing can be done from what I gather I't sucks I know but shit happens. what gets me is that under legislation the plates had to be affixed by the 7th of may they cant play by their rules .

this I believe is also part of the consipisy to make people not want imports believe me most people on here had to wait for their cars to come so we understand but can I tell you there is nothing like driving a skyline all the waiting will be forgotten after a week or 2 of ownership

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
