hey guys, ahhh... only the other day i tok my r33 for a spin to come back with oil srayed all over the engine which was comin from the breather filter on the top of the block...and from the turbo (t04e garret)... turns out i need a full rebuild... while im there im thinkin of just goin balls out on the motor nd just performancing the shizza out of it... im thinkin of changing cams, forging pistons and along those lines.... what would be some helpful mods in the block?? as i am new to this,, also... ive noticed that my turbo doesnt start spalling up until about 5000rpm... how can i make this sooner??... cause the lag is killing me in the gear changes... and ummm... i was told today that microtech is shocking.. is this true??... im thinkin of upgrading to a wold 3d ecu.. is this a good idea??..

rods and pistons in the bottom r always a good idea

metal head gasket and some head and main stud for insurance (bearing aswell of corse)

top end cams and valve springs and a genral check up maybe some porting depending on ur budget

the best way to get ur turbo onto boost sooner is a 3Ltr bottom end or change the exhuast housing on the turbo

i have never had a problem with microtech but wolf3d if a better option

hope some of this helps

with those engine mods... how much is that lookin at approx... 6g??... and changing the exaust housing is that expensive??.... could i just have my ecu re=mapped and engine tuned to have the turbo spall earlier??

but those block mods will cut alot of the lag n e way wont it.... cause atm... one minute im not ogin n e where... next the back wheels are coming out... just seems to be bad balance.. is this all tuning issues??

First of all what turbo are u running at the moment cause 5000rpm is pretty laggy so im guessing its a big turbo??

Best bet for ECU would be a power FC if you can get ur hands on one, if not than the microtech is a good option for a direct replacement ecu. Emanage Ultimates seem to be doing pretty well for piggyback units these days so that could be another option.

For engine block mods, yeah forged pistons, conrods and bearings would be a good upgrade as said. A set of cams tuned well will bring power on earlier so this will help ur spooling issue if you want to keep the turbo you have at the moment.

Power FC's are hard to come by on the R33 GTS-t as you can't get them new anymore, so people ask quite a bit of money for them. This ranges from about $1300-$1800 depending on where you look (ebay or for sale section on SAU etc). Still it's a good value for money as most places are experienced with tuning them. This means you might save money in the tuning (might pay 4 hours of tuning instead of 8 hours of tuning for an ECU the workshop isn't familiar with). So yeah that would be the best bet for an ECU.

A tuned ECU will bring the spool on a lot earlier so this would be a good start :)

What else is done to your car engine performance wise?

ahhh i have , t04e garret, custom inlet plenum, 38mm external wastgate, high mount manifold, 740cc injectors, boshe 044 fuel pump, microtech ecu, hks front mount, custom headers with a straight through 3 inch exaust i think thats about it for the engine

Just do an rb30 forged bottom end reuild, if the turbo is that big, its the only thing that will bring the boost threshold down to something reasonable

Yeah agreed. With that sized turbo that you are using and the modifications that you allready have, your pretty much limited in what you can do. You've pretty much allready got all your main bolt ons and with the option of having to have to do a rebuild, an RB30 bottom end or a stroker kit is the only thing other than a set of cams that will decrease your spool time. Only other option is to go a smaller turbo but if you have to do a rebuild anyway, just go the RB30 bottom end.

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
