I was going to replace the fuel pump in my stagea, however the cradle the stock one fits into is way too small for the Bosch 040 to fit. the attachements for the sock are completely different on both fuel pumps. What have other people done to upgrade their fuel pumps? I just want to make sure I don't wreck anything by installing either the wrong fuel pump or not mounting it properly

i haven't seen the cradle for the stagea but i have fitted (to my R33) a bosch 984 which flows more and has a hose end that will fit the factory sock using a tiny piece of 12mm EFI line and a clamp which voids fuel pick up issues with the 040. i have a DIY in the tutorial DIY section if it helps.

alternatively greenline/nengun have nismo/tomei/sard pumps which are very competitive on price once you factor in your time and labour.

the 040 will fit in easy, this is a pic of the 040 in the stock cradle from my stagea, i just used a hose clamp to secure it in and clipped it back in :P

dont waste money on these direct fit Sard ones etc the Bosch ones fit perfect

oh also a 040 doesnt have a sock on the end at all, the whole bottom of the pump is a metal gauze (sp?) so u dont need a sock end

this is the cradle itself (i think from memory the top half of the cradle i removed to allow the fitment on the pump)

Well that's the most helpful thing I've seen all day, thank you very much for that.

Not having a sock would affect how low into the tank the fuel can go before it can't pump any more? the sock sits quite low in the tank. I guess I'd just have to mount the pump in quite a ways.

Thank you for those pics, very very awesome.

No worries Leshy the 040 will work out in the perfect spot, it cant sit too low in the tank or u will be jamming the filter onto the bottom of the tank and restrict the flow. the position i have in that pic is spot on and only issue i can see is with the whole end of the pump being a filter its not as low in the tank and maybe with under 1/4 of a tank it would possibly not be submerged on hard cornering, but i reckon it would need to be pretty damn empty to do that.

my 040 is mounted on stock cradle 'as low as it can go'.

have no issues with fuel starvation below 1/4 mark. can drive deep into the fuel-light-on stage.........

mind you I didnt install it myself, but paid bugga all for the install and battery direct wire feed.

Well I closed the fuel tank up after getting frustrated with it, also I was seeing purple elephants. I'll have anotehr go at it next weekend and just cable tie the pump onto the cradle. thanks for the help guys.

I'd be using a hose clamp if u can as some zip ties rot in petrol after a while and u dont want a floating fuel pump :D If u want to use zip ties use about 4 or 5 so if one rots away theres still some holding it in position.

Best bet is to do it with as little fuel in the tank as possible so u can see what u are doin abit better, also make doubly sure the cradle clips back in properly and it cant unclip and slide up. It took me a few goes at clipping it on but eventually it was fine

good luck

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
