Hi,

I have a automatic R32 and i few questions about boost controllers,

Would like to know if i increase the boost to say 12-15 psi will i notice my fuel usage increase at all?

And also

If i had a boost contoller with an in cabin controller would i be able to crank it up when i need the power.... then turn it down to say 5psi when i want to conserve fuel??

Anything would be appreciated.... i also found the thread about an awsome manual controller from ebay .... but it doesnt have a in cabin contoller...

Anyways thanks in advance for the tips

in answer to your question, if your fuel consumption will increase if u use the 12-15psi(full throttle) i dont see the need to lower your boost to 5-7psi, if your using full throttle to make 5-7psi then you obviously are meaning to do it and want more power so i'd leave it set on the higher 12-15psi so when u need the power you've got it and dont need to keep changing setting, obviously when your driving around town on light throttle u dont use boost hardly at all so fuel consumption is less, once u want the power and are using 12-15psi of boost then u get the kick in the pants feel and ur tank is drained accordingly, more power=more fuel... cheers

pretty much, when u set a boost level, lets say 15psi for example. its suppose to be a max setting u want to run, now sometimes there spiking and sometimes there boost fade up in rev range but generally u can make the figure set unless theres other problems, but only time ur car will make the boost is under heavy load( full throttle) so aslong as u drive it with light to cruise throttle then your consumption of fuel shouldnt be affected too much, put your foot down and you'll know about it, stock boost is very dull after 1st gear, increasing boost is a good way to add mid-top end to it...but with this makes engine a little more thirsty... cheers

so if i had it running at 15psi and drove it like a grandma would i still get my 9-10 L/100km

Yes.

My car stock is around 12psi. now i have bigger turbos, higher boost, power fc and a fully rebuilt motor with forged pistons and i have better fuel economy. when i get my boost controller and up the boost to 18-20psi, i will still have the same fuel economy on the road as i drive like a grandma. you control how much fuel you use with your right foot.

Agree with everything above.

Just add that turning the boost down (you mentioned 5psi) can only go as low as what your actuator is set at, no lower.

So if it's an R32, the actuator is a 10psi job, you can add a boost controller to go up to 50psi if you have all the supporting mods but you can't go lower than 10psi

....unless you change the actuator to an R33 job which is 5psi ;)

Thats the joy of owning a turbo car.

Drive it off boost and it pretty much consumes as much fuel as any other 2.0/2.5L, but the power is there when you want it, just need to put your foot down and watch the fuel gauge droppppp! ;)

Thanks,

Abu

if u boost ur car up to 12-15psi ull have to get it tuned for high boost...therfore ur petrol consumption will suffer.

It'll only suffer when on the gas but the extra power is worth it.

If your off throttle or on light throttle, it'll be in another part of the map and should be tuned for that accordingly.

So, yeah petrol consumption can still be kept to a minimum if you wanna use it as a commuter for example.

For fuel consumption, my 165rwkws tune = my 195rwkws tune = 240 rwkws tune...... when on light throttle

I could always get close to, or on 500kms per 55-60 litres when commuting on the freeway.

But the 240 used more than the 195, which used more than the 166 when on the gas ;)

    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
