ok got a problem my wife is getting rid of her frontera has shopped around (liberty, outback,camry/sportivo, commodore sv6 or a Series II Stagea) Now the only problem is which one. She had decided on either a 98 Yellow Series II, standard no sunroofs or extras but very clean and tidy or a 99 Pearl White Series II - leather, twin sunnies, woodgrain, electric seats, reversing camera, heated seats etc. The pearl white one is $1000 more. I think that the yellow one is slightly better condition but she's keen on the pearl white. Have included pics. Which one!

Are you going to modify it?

The yellow will look hot slammed on some big wheels, but if you're going to keep it standard, I think stock for stock the white one looks better.

Only mods - (so far) lol. Lowering, wheels, front window tint unless she gets the bug.

I suppose it comes down to personal taste. Will the yellow be "cool" for awhile then too "loud" after you've had it longer? Both look the goods, and poersonally, I would go the white, only because it has the sunroofs. If you have kids, even more reason.

quick summary

YellowPro

1. yellow : easy for you to spot where she is

2. Looks good and loud

Contra

1. Cops will be noticing you more. (Its been studied in the US that cops tend to look out for car in particular RED in color. Cos fast cars are most likely to be in red those day early90s Ferraris, porsche and Lambos.

Pearl White Pro

1. looks not aggressive.

2. its doesnt show much when its dirty.

contra

1. the paint will be a bitch to match if you need to repaint or anything to it.

But like the guys said personal preference. Rule of thumb dont stand out too much from the crowd if not the cops will be eyeing for you

the peral white paint isnt hard to match,

its a tin of grey and a tin of whitish stuff - Ive got some from my mate who worked at Protec ;)

yellow looks nice, however being for the wife, Id go for the little extras such as electric heated leather seats and twin sunroof....... plus being a 'lady' LOL the reversing camera might come in handy in the shopping mall carpark *joke - not

try to get it down to $500 difference in price?

It's a shame the Yellow one doesn't have all the goodies...I wouldn't hesitate for a second. So my choice would have to be the white due to the xtras it has. Not much price difference,so a good negotiation should get it for the same price as the Yellow one...if not cheaper???

I'd got he white one personally. I have a Pearl White S1 with leather and twin sunnies and the kids love the extra light in the back.

And the Japs have an old saying - "The nail that sticks out get's hammered". Anybody think the yellow one sticks out at all?? :nyaanyaa:

Cheers, Greg.

Someone has watched too much "Tokyo Drift" :)

This is one of those personal taste things and its really up to you to decide because everyone is going to give you a different answer and you'll never make your mind up  But if your wife is anything like my partner then your not going to get out of buying the white one becasue it comes with all the goods. Even though you'll probably stop using all the extras once the fun wears off (don't think I've opened my sun roofs for months now :) ) So you might as well give in now

As for standing out I think all stageas stand out (maybe because I own one) but I thought as soon as I got the nismo kit fitted I'd start getting pulled up (you can hear it coming) but nothing yet. Only thing I've been pulled up for is a RBT and the policeman just started asking me all about it because he'd never seen anything like it and said it looked great! Even on the odd occasion my partner drives it (she drives a 1.6 pulsar so when she gets in the foot automaticly gets planted :))

Meh, saw it once when I was drunk, and it was a burned copy at that, so I'm not the one to be quoting lines from it!

There is bright yellow S2 manual with all the goodies in it down here in Hobart (I know the guy who owns it, his son sold us our Stag) and he get's every boy racer trying to do him at the lights. So he just drives his BMW X5 everywhere!

But then again, I do just love white cars. Nice and clean paintwork, no rice, no chrome......my R31 wagon like that, so is my wife's Stag.

Cheers, Greg.

P.S. Mr. RS4, I know you're only taking the piss!! :)

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
