i'm surprised its still only 10mp...considering the MK111 is like 22mp! film is only like 17mp!?!

still....at least it has live view and a 3" screen..

think i'll keep my K10D for a while yet!

nice, live view mode is a great idea. very handy when using tri-pod etc on weird angles and makes it easy to quickly frame a shot. to be honest I was surprised the 400D didn't have it as an entry level DSLR people moving up from compact cams would miss it. I know I do.

so am I right in that it uses the same sensor as the 400D? but has a newer/better image processor? any other major differences apart from more FPS and better processor? oh and larger screen?

Not quite, the 40D has dust reduction built in, weather proof battery/CF doors, magnesium/stainless steel body, plus a shit load more, check it out here.

40D is the new bench mark in the industry for DSLR's under 3k...

Ive had the chance to play with the camera quite a lot of the past 3 days and love it.

Battery life has been improved also from 750 shots in the 30D to 1100+ shots in the 40D all due to the Digic III processor.

Life view on a 3" screen makes perfect sence now, it very usefull when using a tripod. It now separates the photographer from the camera and allows for more interaction with the subject matter. The weather proof seals are great, its battle zone ready, paired with L series lenses and a 580exII and your set to go.

The 6.5fps sounds good but its not great until you realise it can do that in RAW and for up to 75 frames straight. :)

Its gonna come as a body only and also in a 17-85mm IS kit... Stock hits the shelves late next week...

PS. The battery grip has been updated also, its now called a BGE2n (Its the same as a BGE2 just now with weather proof seals.)

In short, this camera is gonna sell like hot cakes, it took all the shine of Nikons D3 and D300 launch yesterday afternoon cause all everyone could talk about it how good the canon is in terms of value for money. The Nikons will be over the $3500 mark anyway, and as neither of the Nikons are full frame sensors they wont get much traction in the market with the EOS 5D in place as it has that price point wrapped up nicelly.

Boy its gonna be a busy week this week.

I got the 1D Mk3 yesterday, but didn't have a wet dream last night :) However when I went to work today, I realised I left the batteries for it at home (on charge) so I'm using my Ixus 65 instead lol.

my Missus has ordered a 40d

spec wise it is about even with my 1dmk2n

it beats it in some areas and the 1d beats it in others, will report back when it has arrived

just so you all know guys

there is a few different 1d series cameras

1dmk3 is 10mp 10fps about 3months old

1dSmk3 is 22mp 5fps brand new, was released the same time as 40d

then there is the older models - 1dmk2n 8fps 8mp, 1dmk2 is similar, 1dsmk2 16mp 4fps, 1ds 12mp dont know fps and the 1d classic i think is either 4 or 6mp

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
