Hey!

I want to get more out of my FMIC upgrade.

Usually people would go with 600X300X76 core, but what if I go with 600X300X100 or 110 with better tanks ? Most of the 600x300x76 core come with square tanks, that don't really aid in air travel and sometimes even help with pressure drop.http://www.are.com.au/feat/techtalk/tanks.htm

If I go with a thicker core what benefits will it have ? What cons ?

Now about the core design. The most used one is bar&plate design but what about tube&fin or delta fin ? What are the advantages/disadvantages of either design and what is best suited for street/track applications ?

Thanks!

If you are looking at 250rwkw of power, it might be wise to think about HEAT.

the HEAT generated spinning up that sort fo power.

will your stock finger thick radiator be up to the task?

possibly just.

but what about when you add a 100mm thick metal thing in front of it?

how about the extra capacity of the even thicker intercooler and it's effect on throttle response?

you're right about the end tanks on the generic $200 jobies.

they are not that great.

having said that, if I were in your shoes, I would be looking at an R33 GTR OEM intercooler with custom piping.

People have easily got over 300rwkw with them.

SydneyKid has posted about the pressure drop and temperature variations on his tests on this intercooler.

it came up trumps up to about 300rwkw.

AND, as an added bonus, it is tube and fin, which means plenty of air flow through the fins to cool the poor little pissant radiator behind it.

A GTR intercooler will do the job for you.

There are plenty of cars, as well as GTR's themselves, still running the stock intercooler setup on over 250rwkw.

I just met a guy the other day, off these forums who has his GTR tuned to 285KW@ all 4 wheels, and has retained the stock intercooler setup & plumbing.

Those intercoolers are also a quality built tube and fin design as GTST said, cant go wrong for what you pay.

For the whole "core vs core" thing, please search.

Pros/Cons of each are in a large thread already on the forum that wont make it to this thread as people generally dont post the same thing half a dozen times :3some:

OK. I got 52mm radiator already. And I got a plate and bar 76mm thick FMIC already. Just wanted to make everything safe. How thick is r33 gtr oem intercooler ? And what if I get a copy of it ?

I think the stock GTR cooler is about 65mm thick.

You're sorted with what you've got already..

I wouldn't bother..

the way you posted, it sounded like you had stock gear and were looking for an upgrade for future plans.

hey guys,

i currently have all the stock gear on my R32 GTS-T and am looking to upgrade a few itmes. i'd like to know what ur thoughts are on the Just Jap GTR replacement tube & fin intercooler they offer.

http://www.justjap.com/parts_nintercoolers.htm

Never heard of "COOLING PRO"..

Put it this way.

I'm sure it will do a better job than the factory R32 GTST item.

but if I could get an R33 GTR intercooler for the same price or better, I would get the GTR one.

it's been well and truly tested for flow, cooling, pressure drop etc.

Having said that, I've used a generic just jap style bar and plate china intercooler on my S14 with regular mods and it worked fine.

it's up to you what you want.

yeah, it seems to be Just Jap's new intercooler brand.

i know the chinese made coolers would do the job, but not sure how well they do their job.

also, the thing is, i have a complete Rb24 engine in parts in my garage along with a Trust T67 kit which i'd like to put on the car one day so i'd like to get something that will also work with a higher HP range.

Also, i'd be happy with a GTR cooler but i haven't been able to come across one which is why i've been looking at the Just Jap GTR replacement cooler.

I see.

It seems you've spent a bit of money on this rebuild.

I wouldn't skimp now on an unknown part.

Up to you.

Maybe put up a wanted add here and maybe on Performance forums for an R33 GTR cooler.

well, not really.

i bought the car with a heap of spare parts as it used to have this RB24 & Trust T67 kit running in it before i bought it.

the car is currently running in complete stock spec, but if i upgrade anything i will do it with the outlook of eventually having the RB24 & T67 running in it again, so i want to do it once.

i'll check PF, thanks GTST.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
